Kenley Jansen Blows Save in Loss
Kenley Jansen suffered his first blown save of the season Sunday in a 7-4 loss to the Washington Nationals. Jansen came in to pitch the top of the ninth with a 4-3 lead and proceeded to allow one run on two hits with an intentional walk and a strikeout. The Angels would go on to lose in the 11th. Jansen had converted all 15 save attempts before Sunday, but he did so despite putting up uninspiring numbers. Through 28 2/3 innings this season, the 37-year-old has posted career worsts in ERA (4.40), strikeouts per nine (8.16 K/9), and WHIP (1.36). That output isn't indicative of a lockdown closer, though Jansen does have a secure hold on the Angels' job.Source: ESPN
Los Angeles Angels closer Kyle Finnegan Picks Up Win on Sunday
Kyle Finnegan (1-2) earned his first win of the season in a 7-4 defeat of the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Finnegan, who hadn't made an appearance since Wednesday, threw three innings of scoreless, hitless ball with two strikeouts and two walks. He entered in the ninth inning and wound up slamming the door on the Angels in the 11th after Washington took a three-run lead. Finnegan tossed 30 pitches in his second-longest outing of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.61 across 31 frames. The 33-year-old also boasts a 1.16 WHIP with 25:10 K:BB and 18 saves in 23 chances.Source: ESPN
Washington Nationals closer Kerry Carpenter to Undergo MRI on Hamstring
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) left the team's 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday with a right hamstring injury. Carpenter will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. For his part, Carpenter is optimistic that it's not a serious problem. "It feels similar to the last time I had a little issue with it," he said. "The staff here has done a great job of getting me back pretty quickly. We'll see how it goes, but I think we're all pretty optimistic about it." Carpenter tweaked his hamstring in late April and has played through it without requiring a trip to the 10-day injured list. Before exiting Sunday, Carpenter starred with a home run, a triple, and two RBI in a 2-for-3 night. The 27-year-old is batting .257/.285/.494 with 16 homers, 32 RBI, and 40 runs scored over 280 plate appearances.Source: Cody Stavenhagen - The Athletic
Detroit Tigers outfielder Ranger Suarez Tosses Seven Strong Innings in Win
Ranger Suarez earned his seventh win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Braves on Sunday. He allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings. This was his fifth consecutive start of at least seven innings pitched with two earned runs or fewer. The 29-year-old was one of the best pitchers in baseball during the first half of 2024 before falling off later in the season, but it looks like he has returned to that elite form here in 2025. After allowing seven earned runs in his first start of the season on May 4, he's allowed only nine runs in his ten starts since. The lefty will carry a 2.00 ERA into his next start, currently set to be against the Reds.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Kerry Carpenter Leaves Game with Apparent Hamstring Injury
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) left Sunday's 3-0 victory over the Twins in what is likely a hamstring injury, reports Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. He pulled into third base injured after hitting an RBI triple in the fifth inning, and was immediately removed by a pinch runner. He was already playing through a sore hamstring and was wearing a compression sleeve, so it's very possible that he injured it further. The slugger was on his way to having a huge day at the plate, as he was 2-for-3 with a home run and triple. Expect further updates on the extent of his injury after he undergoes further tests after the game.Source: Cody Stavenhagen
Detroit Tigers outfielder Miguel Rojas Exits Early with Jammed Finger
Miguel Rojas (finger) left Sunday's game against the Royals in the eighth inning after injuring his finger on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning. After the game, Rojas said he won't need a trip to the injured list and that it was just a bad jammed finger, reports David Vassegh of SportsNet LA. The player's word isn't always the most reliable source of information, as it ultimately isn't up to them whether they play through the injury or not, but it's encouraging to see that he isn't concerned. Even if he doesn't need an IL stint, the 36-year-old could see some extended time on the bench while he recovers.Source: David Vassegh
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Anthony Seigler Getting Promoted to Majors
Anthony Seigler is getting called up to the major leagues, reports Francys Romero. The youngster has played all around the infield this season in Triple-A, making appearances at catcher, second base, and third base. He signed a minor league deal with the Brewers this offseason with low expectations, after not panning out for the Yankees since being drafted 23rd overall in the 2018 draft. However, he has been dominant in the minors this year, slashing .278/.416/.469 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, 43 runs, and 20 stolen bases in 62 games. He'll likely serve as a utility man for the big league club, but his versatility will leave him with many opportunities to hit his way into the lineup. The 26-year-old isn't a must-add in most fantasy leagues, but he is an intriguing option for deep roto leagues.Source: Francys Romero
Milwaukee Brewers catcher and infielder Cedric Mullins Drawing Trade Interest From Astros
Cedric Mullins is drawing trade interest from the Houston Astros, who are aggressively looking for a left-handed bat on the market. It would be a boost for Houston's offense, as their outfield currently consists of Jake Meyers, Cooper Hummel, and Cam Smith. Mullins is batting only .213 with a .295 on-base percentage, but he brings some pop and speed to the lineup with 12 home runs and eight stolen bases. The speedster is just one year removed from stealing 32 bases in 2024, and a change of scenery could potentially wake him up out of his current slump.Source: Michael Schwab
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Oneil Cruz Smacks Two Homers
Oneil Cruz has been in a slump recently and was dropped in the batting order. He fell to sixth in the order on Sunday, but maybe that helped spark his bat. Cruz hit a two-run home run off right-hander Frankie Montas in the first inning. He would hit another two-run shot in the seventh inning for his first multi-hit game in nearly a month. Cruz finished this game 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI, and two runs scored in the blowout win over the New York Mets. It has been a struggle at times with Cruz, but fantasy managers should continue to stick with him.Source: mlb.com
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Justin Wrobleski Tosses Six Scoreless Innings
Justin Wrobleski came in as the bulk reliever during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. This strategy has been working for the Dodgers, so they will continue using it. Wrobleski followed opener Lou Trivino and was nearly untouchable on the mound. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and striking out six batters in the win. Wrobleski has tossed four straight outings with two earned runs or less. The 24-year-old could start picking up steam here soon in fantasy leagues with the way he's throwing the ball.Source: mlb.com
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Kinley Records Third Save
Tyler Kinley got a rare save chance during Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Kinley isn't normally called upon for saves, but Seth Halvorsen and Victor Vodnik were already used earlier in the game. The Rockies handed Kinley the ball in the 11th inning with a one-run lead. The veteran right-hander tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to record his third save of the season. Fantasy managers shouldn't read too much into this one. Kinley has struggled throughout most of the season, so he'll probably remain in lower leverage situations going forward.Source: mlb.com
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Jack Leiter Pitches Well in No-Decision
Jack Leiter has been roughed up on the mound lately, but put together a strong performance versus the Mariners. The right-hander tossed six innings allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven batters in the no-decision. This is the first time that Leiter has allowed three earned runs or less in a start since June 5. He'll take a 4.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 58/32 K/BB ratio into his next start against the San Diego Padres. Leiter hasn't produced enough quality outings lately to warrant streaming in anything more than deep leagues.Source: mlb.com
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mitch Garver Knocks in Four Runs
Mitch Garver made his return to the lineup after missing a few games due to a jaw injury. He came ready to play during Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers. Garver tied the game in the sixth inning with an RBI single. He would collect another RBI with a hit in the 10th inning. Finally, Garver would put the game out of reach with a two-run home run off right-hander Cole Winn in the 12th inning. He finished this game 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBI in the win. Garver has been fairly quiet this season and doesn't play enough to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats. However, this was a good performance by Garver, so maybe he'll earn more playing time.Source: mlb.com
Seattle Mariners catcher Aaron Judge Blasts Two Homers, Dealing With Back Issue
Aaron Judge (back) was reportedly dealing with back soreness heading into Sunday's game against the Athletics. It didn't seem to be bothering him too much as he produced a big game. Judge took right-hander Luis Severino deep in the fourth inning with a two-run shot. He would later hit another home run which would be his 30th of the season. Judge finished this game 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in the win. He might serve as the DH for a few more games until his back is better, but that issue isn't going to slow him down at the plate.Source: mlb.com
New York Yankees outfielder Jeff Hoffman Strikes Out Side for 18th Save
Jeff Hoffman mowed down the Boston Red Sox to earn his 18th save in a 5-3 win on Sunday. Hoffman entered in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the side on just 14 pitches. It was Hoffman's first save since June 10. The 32-year-old stumbled through a few awful outings in May, but he has righted the ship in June with nine innings of two-run ball. Overall, Hoffman has logged a 4.98 ERA with 48 strikeouts, 10 walks, a 1.08 WHIP, and four blown saves across 34 1/3 innings.Source: ESPN
