Byron Buxton Sitting on Sunday
Byron Buxton (side) will take a seat on Sunday against the Washington Nationals. Harrison Bader will take over in center field and bat eighth versus right-hander Jake Irvin. Buxton left Saturday's game early with soreness in his left side, and he has since undergone imaging. There's no word on whether he'll require a stint on the 10-day injured list. Injuries have haunted Buxton throughout his career, but the 31-year-old has mostly stayed healthy this season and offered tremendous production. He earned his second All-Star invitation and has slashed .282/.343/.561 with 23 homers, 59 RBI, 68 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases in 364 plate appearances.Source: MLB.com
Minnesota Twins outfielder Jacob Wilson Out on Sunday
Jacob Wilson (hand) is not in the team's lineup Sunday against the Houston Astros. Max Schuemann will handle shortstop in Wilson's place and bat eighth against left-hander Colton Gordon. Wilson has been playing through a hand contusion that he suffered on a hit by pitch before the All-Star break, per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. That may help explain why Wilson, who made the All-Star team as a rookie, has gone just 3-for-29 in the second half of the season. Despite the recent slide, Wilson is still hitting .312/.354/.439 with 10 homers, 45 RBI, 46 runs scored, and five stolen bases over 396 plate appearances.Source: Martin Gallegos - MLB.com
Athletics shortstop Blake Snell's Next Start Expected to Come With Dodgers
Blake Snell (shoulder) is expected to come off the injured list and rejoin the starting rotation for his next turn, per The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. Snell looked god in his fourth minor-league rehab outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday night, throwing 4 2/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, although he did walk four batters. The 32-year-old has always had issues with command, but he's also won two Cy Young awards and still has plenty of strikeout upside when he's on for one of the best teams in baseball. It's unclear when Snell might make his return to L.A.'s rotation, but it could come next weekend against his former squad, the Tampa Bay Rays. Snell needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues for the remainder of the season as he nears his return.Source: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that left-hander Kerry Carpenter Activated and Starting on Sunday
Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and optioned infielder Trey Sweeney to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move. Carpenter is starting in right field and batting third in his return for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Max Scherzer. Now that the 27-year-old is back from a three-week stay on the injured list due to a strained right hamstring, he should play regularly for the Tigers in the outfield or at designated hitter. The left-handed hitter will return to a .257/.285/.494 slash line with 16 home runs, 32 RBI, 40 runs and one stolen base for the first-place Tigers. Carpenter has been injury-prone and has his issues against left-handed pitchers, but there's no disputing his power or the fact that he hits the ball pretty hard when he makes contact.Source: Tigers PR
The Detroit Tigers activated outfielder Alejandro Kirk Goes on Concussion Injured List
Alejandro Kirk (concussion) on the seven-day concussion injured list on Sunday recalled catcher Ali Sanchez from the minor leagues in a corresponding move, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Tyler Heineman is behind the plate in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers and will take over as Toronto's primary catcher while Kirk tends to his head injury. The 26-year-old Kirk suffered a concussion after taking a foul tip to the mask during Saturday's win in Motown, and he will miss at least the next week. Fantasy managers may want to expect a longer absence, as concussions can be difficult to return from. The two-time All-Star doesn't have amazing power (seven homers in 88 games), but he's hitting over .300 on the year and has an above average .775 OPS in his 346 trips to the plate in his sixth big-league season.Source: MLB.com - Keegan Matheson
The Toronto Blue Jays placed catcher Nick Castellanos Back in Action on Sunday
Nick Castellanos (knee) is back in right field and is hitting cleanup for Sunday's series finale in New York against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon. Castellanos did not play in Saturday's contest in the Bronx after jamming his knee on defense in the series opener on Friday, but he's back on Sunday and should be returned to starting fantasy lineups despite a matchup against a tough left-hander. The 33-year-old veteran has hit well against Rodon in the past in 13 career at-bats, batting .385 with a home run and three RBI. In seven games in the second half of the season, Castellanos has gone 7-for-29 (.241) with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base. Castellanos is hitting .270/.311/.434 on the season as a whole with 13 homers, 56 RBI, 47 runs and four stolen bases in 392 at-bats.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Roman Anthony Hitting Leadoff on Sunday
Roman Anthony will start in left field and hit leadoff for the BoSox in Sunday's series finale at Fenway Park against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Dustin May. It will be the first time in Anthony's career that he has hit in the leadoff spot. The 21-year-old has earned a move up the batting order by going 16-for-49 (.327) with a home run, six RBI and a stolen base in his last 15 games. The former second-round pick in 2022 has played in only 39 games in his first year in the big leagues and is hitting .265/.382/.409 with a .791 OPS, two home runs, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored and two stolen bases in 157 plate appearances. Anthony hasn't been unstoppable early in his career with Boston, but he's starting to figure things out and could be a major asset for fantasy managers down the stretch.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Blake Treinen Activated by Dodgers
Blake Treinen (forearm) has been activated from the 60-day injured list. Treinen has been out since mid-April due to a forearm sprain, but he recently completed a lengthy rehab stint that saw him make seven appearances across the Arizona Complex League and Triple-A. With Tanner Scott (elbow) on the injured list, Treinen could be the lead candidate for saves in the Dodgers' bullpen. In 46 2/3 innings for Los Angeles last season, Treinen earned just one save but went 7-3 with a 1.93 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts. However, he had three saves for the Dodgers in the 2024 postseason and has 82 saves for his career.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Royals Not Looking to Trade Seth Lugo
Seth Lugo, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Kansas City is 51-54 and 4 1/2 games back of a playoff spot in the American League, so they could look to sell off some veteran pieces at the trade deadline. The 35-year-old Lugo has a $15 million player option for the 2026 season, so he could become a free agent at season's end. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of another excellent season. In 113 innings (19 starts), Lugo is 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 99 strikeouts. His 4.56 xERA suggests some regression is likely, but Lugo has outpitched his peripherals in each of the last three seasons.Source: USA Today - Bob Nightengale
The Kansas City Royals are "showing little interest" in trading starting pitcher Paul Goldschmidt Out of Lineup on Sunday
Paul Goldschmidt is not in the starting lineup for his team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. The right-handed Goldschmidt has fallen into a timeshare at first base with lefty swinger Ben Rice, who is getting the start against Phillies righty Zack Wheeler. In 390 plate appearances this season, Goldschmidt is hitting .287/.345/.425 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, 58 runs scored, and five stolen bases. A significant portion of his damage has been against left-handed pitching, as he's hit .394 with five home runs in 114 plate appearances against lefties compared to .246 with three home runs in 276 plate appearances versus right-handers. The 37-year-old Goldschmidt is still a productive hitter overall, but he can no longer be counted on for power. His .138 ISO is the worst of his career, and his 7.9% barrel rate is his worst since 2016.Source: MLB.com
New York Yankees first baseman Nestor Cortes on the Trade Block?
Nestor Cortes, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Cortes (elbow) has been on the injured list since early April due to a flexor strain in his left elbow. However, he threw 93 pitches in a rehab outing on Thursday and appears to be ready to return to the big league mound. In 174 1/3 innings (30 starts) for the New York Yankees in 2024, Cortes was 9-10 with a 3.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 162 strikeouts. Milwaukee is a contending team, but they have pitching depth in both the major leagues and Triple-A. Trading Cortes to a pitching-needy buyer could allow them to acquire a major league hitter who can step in and help the lineup immediately.Source: USA Today - Bob Nightengale
The Milwaukee Brewers will "start listening" to trade offers for starting pitcher Dodgers Interested in Harrison Bader
Harrison Bader, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Bader would be a logical upgrade in left field over Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto, who has struggled mightily this season. The 31-year-old Bader is having arguably his best offensive season so far in 2025. In 295 plate appearances, he's slashing .250/.332/.435 with 12 home runs, 38 RBI, 29 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. A center fielder for the majority of his career, Minnesota has utilized Bader mostly in left field, and he's provided standout defense. If acquired by the Dodgers, Bader would have the opportunity to earn the majority of the team's available playing time in left field.Source: USA Today - Bob Nightengale
The Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in Minnesota Twins outfielder Marcell Ozuna Open to Any Trade That Guarantees Every Day Playing Time
Marcell Ozuna has played more than 10 big league seasons and the last six with the Braves, which gives him the right to veto any trade. However, Ozuna is "expected to approve any deal if the team guarantees him everyday playing time," according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The 34-year-old slugger is in the final year of his current contract and has lost playing time in recent weeks. Ozuna is hitting .232/.358/.384 with 13 home runs, 42 RBI, and 37 runs scored in 400 plate appearances. His 16.3% walk rate is by far the best of his career, but his barrel rate has fallen from 15.4% in 2024 to 10.8% this season. Ozuna is still a dangerous presence in any lineup, but his lack of defensive ability may limit his appeal on the trade market. A move to a contender where he will play every day and likely join a more potent lineup would improve his fantasy outlook.Source: USA Today - Bob Nightengale

Braves Willing to Listen to Offers for Ozzie Albies
Ozzie Albies, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The Braves would be selling low on the three-time All-Star in what has been the worst season of his career. The switch-hitting Albies has batted a miserable .221/.296/.326 with nine homers, 40 RBI, 43 runs scored, and nine steals in 436 plate appearances. Albies has been especially poor versus lefties, who have held him to a toothless .218/.243/.264 line. Despite his unexpected woes this year, it seems likely Albies' employer (whether it's Atlanta or another team) will exercise his $7 million option for 2026 in the offseason. Otherwise, they'd have to pay the 28-year-old a $4 million buyout and would only save $3 million.Source: Bob Nightengale
