Carson Whisenhunt Strikes Out Seven At Triple-A
Carson Whisenhunt pitched well for Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. That makes back-to-back seven-inning, seven-strikeout starts for the 6-foot-3 hurler. The performance lowered his ERA to 4.14 on the season to go along with a 1.22 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 37 IP. The Giants' second-ranked prospect will likely make a push for a midseason call-up, although he is not a priority stash candidate at the moment. The 24-year-old owns a 30.2 percent strikeout rate during his career in the minors with solid command, so he has the potential to be a viable streaming or DFS option in the right matchups whenever he arrives. Joe Ryan Scratched From Thursday's Start With Illness
Joe Ryan (illness) from his scheduled start on Thursday in the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles due to an illness, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Bobby Nightengale. Right-hander Bailey Ober will make the start in Ryan's place. It's unclear if Ryan will have his turn in Minnesota's rotation skipped entirely, or if he'll make a start at some point during the team's three-game home weekend series against the San Francisco Giants. After a six-run outing on April 20 against the Atlanta Braves, Ryan has been excellent his last two times out against the Angels and Red Sox, allowing just an earned run with two walks and 19 strikeouts in 13 innings. Ryan should be fine to take the ball this weekend against the Giants, but it represents a downgrade in matchup instead of facing the offensively-challenged Orioles.Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Bobby Nightengale
The Minnesota Twins have scratched right-hander Jackson Merrill Homers, Drives In Two
Jackson Merrill went 2-for-4 with a home run, a run, and two RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Yankees. He's picked up right where he left off after missing a month with a hamstring strain, producing two multi-hit games in his first two games back. He's batting .400 over 12 games this season with four home runs and one stolen base. The 22-year-old will look to build on his elite 2024 rookie season and figures to be a top-15 outfielder for fantasy for years to come.Source: MLB.com
San Diego Padres outfielder TJ Friedl Blasts Two Home Runs
TJ Friedl hit two solo home runs and walked once in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Braves. This was his first time homering since April 5th, bringing his total to three on the year. He's now slashing .273/.338/.392 and has eight stolen bases as the regular leadoff hitter for the Reds. He is still available on the waiver wire in too many fantasy leagues for a leadoff hitter who plays half of his games in one of the most hitter-friendly venues in the league. He has the potential to steal over 30 bases with enough pop to not hurt you in any other categories.Source: MLB.com
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Dalton Rushing Homers, Collects Two RBI On Wednesday
Dalton Rushing went 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, collecting two RBI and scoring once in the process. The Dodgers' top prospect has now hit safely in eight of his last nine games, and is slashing .323/.435/.527 thanks in part to four home runs and a strong 15.3 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old continues to make his push for a big league debut, and although he is a catcher by trade, the team has had him play first base and some outfield so far this season in an effort to create multiple paths to playing time. Look for a call-up in June sometime, and those in NL-only and two-catcher leagues should consider stashing MLB's 26th-ranked prospect for his potential power production in a potent L.A. lineup, who carries eligibility at C and OF on Yahoo!. Los Angeles Dodgers catching prospect Michael Wacha Throws Seven Shutout Innings
Michael Wacha pitched seven shutout innings and earned his second win of the season in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the White Sox. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five. The 33-year-old veteran has been solid as of late, as this was his sixth straight start of at least five innings while allowing three runs or less. He won't blow away hitters with his stuff, but he has gotten the job done to the tune of a 2.98 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 34 strikeouts in 45 ⅓ innings so far in 2025. He'll look to keep the momentum going in his next start, set to be against the Astros in Houston.Source: MLB.com
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Cristopher Sanchez Tosses Six Scoreless Innings
Cristopher Sanchez was dominant on Wednesday, pitching six shutout innings and earning the win in a 7-0 victory against the Rays. He allowed one hit and three walks while striking out five. He's only allowed more than two runs in a start one time all season, and he now holds a 2.89 ERA with 44 strikeouts in 37 1/3 innings. Although he didn't strike out many batters in this start, he limited the damage by inducing ground balls. This isn't anything new for the left-hander, whose 58.3% ground ball rate in 2024 ranked in the top five percent of the league. He'll look to keep things going in his next outing, which is currently lined up to be against the Cardinals.Source: MLB.com
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Bubba Chandler Ineffective In Latest Start On Wednesday
Bubba Chandler was uncharacteristically ineffective for Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, lasting just 2 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five. The performance may temporarily mute the calls for the Pirates to bring him up, but it doesn't change the assertion that he is ready for the big leagues. Even after this rough outing, the righty still owns a strong 2.25 ERA and 0.93 WHIP along with 41 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched. Look for the Pirates' top-ranked prospect (MLB No. 12) to get back on track in his next start and be in the majors by mid-June. The 6-foot-3 hurler remains a top stash candidate in redraft leagues.Source: MiLB.com
Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Wilyer Abreu Launches Two Home Runs
Wilyer Abreu tallied three extra-base hits in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers. He hit two home runs and one double while collecting two runs and three RBI. The 25-year-old is slashing an excellent .294/.400/.580 on the season with nine home runs, 25 RBI, 22 runs, and four stolen bases. This is continuing to look like a true breakout season for the youngster, and he is even valuable in points leagues thanks to his 15.0% walk rate.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox outfielder Luis F. Castillo Acquired By Orioles
Luis F. Castillo was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations and was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. He'll serve as rotation depth for the Orioles just as he did for the Mariners, who he made two starts for this season. In those two starts, he allowed six earned runs on 12 hits and seven walks through seven innings. That type of performance won't make him fantasy relevant, but there's always a chance that Baltimore can unlock something new in the right-hander.Source: Matt Weyrich
Starting pitcher Robert Hassell III Catching Fire At Triple-A
Robert Hassell III has caught fire at Triple-A Rochester since the calendar turned to May, going 13-for-23 (.565) over his last six games, including a double and two home runs. Notably, the 23-year-old has also struck out just one time so far in May over 24 plate appearances (4.2 percent) compared to a 24.1 percent strikeout rate prior to May. The recent hot stretch has raised the left-handed hitter's season slash line to .301/.348/.390 with two home runs and seven stolen bases. The 35th-ranked prospect in all of baseball after the 2023 season has faded from the top 100, but as an eighth-overall draft pick, the 6-foot-1 slugger could be starting to finally live up to expectations. The Nats do not have a need for his bat in the majors at the moment, but he is expected to debut this season. If Hassell were to get the call, though, he'd likely only be rosterable in NL-only leagues until he proves himself.Source: MiLB.com

He would end his day 3-for-4 with a triple, and four RBI in the win. Freeman was unstoppable during this three-game series as he knocked in eight runs.
