Hunter Barco Tosses Six Shutout Frames
Hunter Barco tossed six shutout innings en route to picking up the win over Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday evening. In this outing, the left-hander struck out six batters and allowed just five hits and one walk. This was a nice bounce-back for the lefty as he allowed four runs to Columbus in his previous outing. Since earning the call to Triple-A Indianapolis earlier this season, Barco has posted a 4.21 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP across 25 2/3 innings of work. During this stint, Barco has struck out 33 batters but served up a high 18 walks. Earlier in the campaign, the former second-round pick out of Florida held an elite 0.70 WHIP across 25 2/3 shutout frames with Double-A. Barco could be in the mix to earn a late-season taste of the majors.Source: MiLB.com
Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed pitching prospect Adam Mazur Sharp in Return to Triple-A
Adam Mazur was sharp in his return to Triple-A on Tuesday evening. Mazur was promoted to make his season debut in Miami on June 18 against the Phillies. In this outing, Mazur allowed four runs and five hits across 5 2/3 innings. However, the right-hander looked rather impressive in his return to Jacksonville. Facing Nashville, Mazur tossed six shutout innings. He allowed four hits and no walks. He struck out six. After struggling at the Triple-A level last summer, the No. 12-ranked prospect in the system has begun to take a significant step forward. Through 65 2/3 innings, Mazur has struck out 61 batters while holding a 3.29 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect him to be in the mix to return to Miami in the second half.Source: MiLB.com
Miami Marlins right-handed pitching prospect Troy Melton Strikes Out 10 at Triple-A
Troy Melton struck out 10 batters across 5 1/3 innings during their contest against Triple-A Charlotte. This set a new single-game high for Melton at the Triple-A level. The former fourth-round pick from the 2022 MLB Draft was recently promoted to Triple-A Toledo. Through his first 16 innings, Melton has allowed 10 earned runs. However, he has flashed elite command and strikeout potential, allowing just five free passes and tallying 26 punchouts. In addition, he has allowed two runs or fewer in three of his four outings. The San Diego State product opened the season with Double-A and held a solid 3.23 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP across 39 innings of work. If he can continue to find his footing at Triple-A, he could be in the mix to join Detroit late in the second half.Source: MiLB.com
Detroit Tigers right-handed pitching prospect Sal Stewart Swinging a Hot Bat at Double-A
Sal Stewart has been one of the most productive at the Double-A level over the last two weeks. In his last 10 contests, the 21-year-old has held a stellar .447/.512/.789 slash line with one double, four home runs, two stolen bases, and a 5:5 K:BB. Before this impressive surge, Stewart posted a modest .195/.292/.220 line over his last 13 games. The No. 3-ranked prospect in the system was able to open the campaign with Double-A after spending all of 2024 with High-A Daytona. Through 67 total games with Double-A, Stewart sits with an elite .327/.394/.484 line with 18 doubles and seven round-trippers. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production as he could be in the mix to earn a taste of Triple-A in the second half of the season.Source: MiLB.com
Cincinnati Reds infield prospect Travis Sykora Strikes Out Eight on Tuesday
Travis Sykora tossed six shutout innings en route to picking up the victory over High-A Hudson Valley on Tuesday evening. In this contest, Sykora allowed just two hits and two walks. He struck out eight. Since earning the call to High-A earlier this season, Sykora has been nothing short of impressive, logging 29 2/3 innings to the tune of a 1.21 ERA and a 0.67 WHIP. During this stint, Sykora has struck out an impressive 47 batters while allowing just eight free passes. Sykora opened the campaign with Low-A and needed just two starts to prove he was ready to join High-A. With Low-A, Sykora logged a shutout inning with a 9:2 K:BB. Given his impressive start to the season, dynasty managers should expect Sykora to continue to climb prospect boards.Source: MiLB.com
Washington Nationals right-handed pitching prospect Max Clark Hits Home Run in Second Straight Contest
Max Clark went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run during their contest against High-A Lake County on Tuesday evening. This was Clark's second-straight contest going deep. In addition, this was Clark's third-straight game tallying at least two hits. Over his last 11 games, Clark has posted a .310/.412/.595 slash line with two doubles, two triples, two home runs, and two stolen bases. Through 59 total games with High-A this season, the top-ranked prospect in the Detroit system has posted a strong .267/.418/.412 line. This is a nice improvement compared to the .264/.344/.421 line held during his first 32 games at this level during the 2024 campaign. Given his steady progress, Clark should be in the mix to reach Double-A in the second half.Source: MiLB.com
Detroit Tigers outfield prospect Christian Moore Belts Two Homers, Walks Off Red Sox
Christian Moore knocked out two homers on Tuesday, the second being a two-run walk-off homer to give the Angels a 3-2 win. Moore also hit a solo shot in the eighth inning to tie the game at one. It was easily Moore’s biggest night in his short MLB career so far, as he has had a slow start in the big leagues. In 36 at-bats, Moore is hitting .194 with five runs, three homers, and six RBI. It’s a small sample size, though, and things can change quickly. The top-100 prospect has been a consistent everyday player for the Angels since coming up, so if he can get the bat going he could end up being a solid player in fantasy. For now, though, it is more of a wait-and-see for Moore.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Angels second baseman Joey Ortiz Launches Two Big Flies on Tuesday
Joey Ortiz clobbered a pair of home runs on Tuesday, leading the way to a 9-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ortiz smashed a two-run shot in the third inning, then a solo bomb in the fourth, both off of Pirates starter Andrew Heaney. He also had an RBI groundout in the eighth, bringing his total to four on the day. The 26-year-old has struggled mightily for the most part this season, but he has been turning things around at the dish over the last week or so. He is 13-for-30 with two homers and eight RBI over his last seven games. That said, he still holds pretty awful numbers for the season, as he is now hitting .217 with 31 runs, four homers, 18 RBI, and eight steals. Ortiz is still a ways off from even being a consideration for fantasy managers.Source: MLB.com
Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Nico Hoerner Fills Up the Stat Sheet on Tuesday
Nico Hoerner left his mark on Tuesday’s 8-7 loss against the St. Louis Cardinals, going 3-for-4 with a homer and a steal. Hoerner’s homer came with a runner on base in the sixth inning, and he also singled and scored in the third. The homer was actually Hoerner’s first of the season, as his power has been even more lacking than usual. The 28-year-old is hitting .294 with 42 runs scored, one homer, 33 RBI, and 15 steals in 289 at-bats this season. Hoerner is still a strong option in fantasy due to the high average and speed, but expecting any power whatsoever from him is a mistake.Source: MLB.com
Chicago Cubs second baseman Raisel Iglesias Earns First Save Since May
Raisel Iglesias collected his ninth save of the season on Tuesday, putting out a fire in the ninth inning to secure a 7-4 win. Iglesias was summoned with runners on the corners and one out with a four-run lead, and was able to escape with limited damage after allowing a run-scoring double. The 35-year-old has had a tough go of it this year and was removed from the closer role a few weeks ago, but has steadied the ship since then. Dillon Lee has been rock solid as the Braves’ closer, so Iglesias might not get back into his role right away, but if Lee does falter it seems like Iglesias would be the next guy up. He is a decent stash option in leagues where saves are scarce.Source: MLB.com
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Garrett Crochet Punches Out 10 in Brilliant Outing
Garrett Crochet authored another dominant start on Tuesday, going seven shutout innings and striking out 10 in a tough no-decision against the Los Angeles Angels. Crochet scattered three hits and three walks, and left with a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Sox bullpen immediately blew that lead, and they ended up losing 3-2 in extras. The 26-year-old has been tremendous in his first season with Boston, going 7-4 with a 2.06 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 135 strikeouts over 109 ⅓ IP. He has been one of the best pitchers in the majors and should get strong consideration for starting the All-Star Game for the A.L. His next start is scheduled for next Monday, where he will take on the Cincinnati Reds at home. He is currently scheduled to match up against Chase Burns, so that will be one to watch.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chase Burns Punches Out Eight in MLB Debut
Chase Burns had a strong major league debut on Tuesday, tossing five innings of three-run ball and striking out eight in a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees. Burns took a no-decision in this one, but it was a solid first start as he was able to limit a strong Yankees lineup to just six hits, and he didn’t walk anyone. The top prospect actually struck out the first five Yankees he faced, and struck out the side in the first two innings. Burns picked up right where he left off in the minors, where he was dominant across three levels, pitching to a collective 1.77 ERA and 0.77 WHIP while recording 89 strikeouts in 66 IP. The 22-year-old should be rostered everywhere and is a viable starting option for his next outing, which should come in Boston against the Red Sox next Monday.Source: MLB.com
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep Has Mixed Outing on Tuesday
Hurston Waldrep allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 5.2 innings as he took the loss against Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Waldrep wasn't in the zone consistently enough, with 49 of his 94 total pitches thrown for strikes. The right-hander was able to generate 10 swings-and-misses on 34 swings in this outing. However, the lack of control continues to plague him. He's allowed three or more walks in eight of his 14 starts this season. The Braves could have called upon him to join the rotation recently, but opted for the 20-year-old right-hander Didier Fuentes. Waldrep will likely continue to iron things out in the minor leagues for the time being.Source: MiLB.com
Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Zach Neto Exits Early Tuesday After Jamming Right Shoulder
Zach Neto (shoulder) exited Tuesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Red Sox in the ninth inning after making an errant throw to first base. Per the Associated Press' Greg Beacham, Neto jammed his throwing shoulder on a stolen base attempt earlier in the game, and interim manager Ray Montgomery said that Neto was removed as a precaution. The 24-year-old went 1-for-4 with a single and two strikeouts before exiting the game. Neto missed the beginning of the season after having right shoulder surgery but has slashed a strong .278/.321/.494 with 12 home runs, 29 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 262 plate appearances. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more news, but it seems as though Neto is merely day-to-day.Source: Greg Beacham - X.com
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Calvin Faucher Earns Eighth Save Of Season Tuesday
Calvin Faucher notched his eighth save of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Giants. Faucher came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two. He allowed a leadoff walk, got the first out on a strikeout, and ended the game on a ground-ball double play. The 29-year-old entered the season with some fantasy buzz. He hasn't quite lived up to expectations, but he has now converted eight of 11 save opportunities and has converted all four of his save opportunities in the last couple of weeks. He owns a 3.45 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP, and an 8.16 K/9 rate in 28 2/3 innings of work. Faucher may not receive many save opportunities given the team he plays for, but he has finally seemed to have settled into the closer's role, making him worth considering in deep roto leagues.Source: MLB.com
