Ike Irish Selected 19th Overall by Baltimore
Source: MLB.com
The Baltimore Orioles have selected catcher/outfielder Ike Irish out of Auburn University with the 19th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Irish has spent all three seasons of his college career with the Tigers. Last season, the backstop posted a career-high .364/.469/.710 slash line with 13 doubles and 19 home runs across 55 contests. Irish swiped 11 bags and held a 37:33 K:BB. MLB.com noted that while Irish has hit for power in college, he does induce a lot of groundballs, which could limit his power upside on the professional level, as he only went deep twice across 62 games in the Cape Cod League. In addition to his ability to play behind the dish, Irish has also seen ample time in right field. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor where he is deployed while progressing through the Baltimore system, as a permanent shift to the outfield could lead to increased offensive production. Given his collegiate experience, he could find a path to debut in the upper minor leagues early in 2026.Kayson Cunningham Drafted 18th Overall by Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks have selected shortstop Kayson Cunningham from Lady Bird Johnson High School in Texas with the 18th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Cunningham is widely considered an elite hitter and is even credited as one of the top pure hitters in the 2025 prep class on MLB.com. Cunningham won USA Baseball Player of the Year honors in 2024 and was also named Gatorade State Player of the Year this past season. The 19-year-old infielder is known for showing an elite eye at the dish as he rarely swings and misses. He also possesses high power upside that should continue to develop as he progresses through the Arizona system. While he entered the draft as a shortstop, many scouts project him to shift to the keystone later in his career. He will join a young Arizona hitting system that features several budding stars in the lower levels, includingCubs Select Ethan Conrad 17th Overall
With the 17th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Chicago Cubs have selected outfielder Ethan Conrad out of Wake Forest. Conrad spent the 2024 college season with Marist before transferring to Wake Forest for the 2025 season. In 2025, Conrad was one of the top hitters in the nation, posting a .372/.495/.744 slash line with a remarkable 1.238 OPS. He went deep seven times and swiped four bases. He struck out just 14 times and drew 18 walks. His season was cut short due to a shoulder injury. MLB.com credits him for having upside speed with the potential for an increase in power production. He should remain in the outfield but could also shift to first base, where he also spent time in college. Conrad will join a deep Chicago hitting system that features several high-end outfielders, includingTwins Select Marek Houston with 16th Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The Minnesota Twins selected shortstop Marek Houston out of Wake Forest with the 16th overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old has a solid hit tool, but might be more known for his defense than his bat. This past season, the 6-foot-3 slugger hit .354 with 15 home runs while walking as much as a he struck out (15.4 percent). The right-handed hitter could get to mid-teens homers in professional ball with some added muscle.Red Sox Select Kyson Witherspoon with 15th Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The Boston Red Sox selected right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon out of the University of Oklahoma with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. A "powerful athlete who can pitch," Witherspoon went 10-4 with a 2.65 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 25.9 percent K-BB% for the Sooners this past season. The 6-foot-2 hurler brings a 70-grade fastball to the mound, but is known for a nasty slider that has two additional inches of horizontal break than the major league average, along with a cutter and a changeup. The Sox took a pitcher with a ton of upside with this pick.Rays Select Daniel Pierce with 14th Overall Pick
Dansby Swanson, but with more speed. At 18 years old, there's plenty of time to grow into more power within his 6-foot frame.Source: Jeff Passan
The Tampa Bay Rays selected shortstop Daniel Pierce out of Mill Creek High School in Georgia with the 14th pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Known for a quick bat that can hit to all fields, Pierce has solid all around tools that give him comps to Giants Select Gavin Kilen with 13th Overall Pick
Gavin Lux.Source: Jeff Passan
The San Francisco Giants selected shortstop Gavin Kilen out of the University of Tennessee with the 13th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The left-handed slugger has a good reputation for making contact, with a 60-grade hit tool and hit .357 this past season for the Volunteers with a low 11.0 percent strikeout rate. Although not well known for pop, the 21-year-old belted 15 home runs in 2025 and draws comparisons to Gavin Fien Selected 12th Overall by Texas
Source: Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers have selected shortstop/third base prospect Gavin Fien with the 12th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Great Oak High School in California. The 18-year-old recently claimed MLB Develops MVP honors at Major League Baseball's High School All-American Game. Fien is credited for having strong bat-to-ball skills that can hit line drives. In addition, MLB.com noted that the young infielder has begun to add strength, which should help him tap into his power potential. He verbally committed to play college baseball with Texas. Fien also has the skill set to cover the hot corner, given his above-average arm strength. Given his age and raw profile, fantasy managers should expect Fien to open the 2026 minor league regular season in the lower levels of the minor leagues.Athletics Select Jamie Arnold 11th Overall
The Athletics have selected left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Florida State. Arnold made a name for himself during the 2024 campaign when he tallied an impressive 159 strikeouts across 105Billy Carlson Goes 10th Overall to White Sox
Braden Montgomery.Source: Jeff Passan
The Chicago White Sox selected shortstop Billy Carlson out of Corona High School in California with the 10th pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Carlson is credited with having a line-drive approach at the plate, with the potential to increase in power upside. The right-handed hitter, however, carries even more upside on the defensive side of the game, as he was given a stellar 70 Fielding grade and 65 Arm grade on MLB.com prior to the draft. The 6-foot-1 infielder also verbally committed to the University of Tennessee prior to the draft. In addition, he was once viewed as a potential two-way player as he had a strong four-seamer, but is instead expected to now focus entirely on playing shortstop. Carlson should emerge as one of the top bats in the White Sox pipeline alongside outfielder Steele Hall Selected Ninth by Cincinnati
The Cincinnati Reds have selected infielder Steele Hall out of Hewitt-Trussville High School in Alabama with the ninth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The 17-year-old is credited with having elite speed as he was given a perfect 70 grade speed rating on MLB.com. Given his defensive skills, he should expect to remain at shortstop while he progresses through the Cincinnati pipeline. While he has shown great ability to swing fast and drive the ball, he has shown significant struggles when facing secondary pitches. The 6-foot infielder verbally committed to Tennessee earlier this season. Given his young age and need for further development, fantasy managers should expect Hall to remain in the lower levels of the minor leagues for at least the next few seasons. He will join a relatively strong Cincinnati pipeline that has several emerging infielders such asBlue Jays Select JoJo Parker with Eighth Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The Toronto Blue Jays selected shortstop JoJo Parker out of Purvis, Mississippi with the eighth overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft. The 18-year-old was the 2025 Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Mississippi. While some prospects have better hit or power tools, Parker has a solid combination of both, making him one of the more appealing high school hitters in the Draft, which is why he is now a first-round draft pick.Damian Lillard Drawing Interest from the Celtics
Damian Lillard (Achilles) is apparently drawing interest from the Boston Celtics. The 34-year-old, who was released by the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason, is not in a rush to sign with a team. However, Jayson Tatum (Achilles) has reportedly spearheaded efforts to lure him to Boston. Lillard wasn't nearly as productive in Milwaukee after being traded by the Trail Blazers, most recently averaging 24.9 points during the 2024 campaign, 7.3 points fewer than he had in his final season in Portland. He also dealt with a blood clot in his calf before eventually tearing his Achilles during the postseason. The C's are willing to give him a multi-year contract. He also may sign for less due to the Bucks still on the hook for $112.6 million. With that in mind, Lillard could certainly benefit from a move to the Celtics, so he's worth stashing on dynasty rosters until he's back on the floor.Source: Gary Washburn
Free-agent guard Daniel Palencia Continues Breakout Season with 12th Save
Daniel Palencia recorded his 12th save of the season on Sunday, working a perfect inning with a strikeout in his team's 4-1 win over the New York Yankees. The 25-year-old earned his first save for the Cubs on May 21 and hasn't looked back, converting 12/13 save chances. In 34 1/3 innings, he's pitched to a 1.57 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 39 strikeouts. Palencia's 2.73 xERA entering play on Sunday points to likely second-half regression, but even still he's a valuable piece of the Cubs bullpen. Palencia appears locked into the team's closer role for now, but that could change if the Cubs make a notable bullpen addition or two at the trade deadline.Source: MLB.com
Chicago Cubs reliever Marlins Select Aiva Arquette With Seventh Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The Miami Marlins selected shortstop Aiva Arquette out of Oregon State University with the seventh overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old belted 19 home runs for the Beavers this season while batting .354 with a 1.115 OPS. While he's a shortstop, his big 6-foot-5 frame and power-over-hit tools might profile him more at the hot corner eventually.Emilio Pagan Reaches 20 Saves
Emilio Pagan notched his 20th save of the season on Sunday, working a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout in his team's 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. The 34-year-old is enjoying a resurgent season, as he's gone 20/23 in save opportunities while recording 2.93 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched. Pagan still allows far too many home runs (1.62 HR/9), but he limits base runners (.157 batting average against). He last received regular work as a closer back in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's earned a decent runway to remain the Reds' top save option the rest of the way.Source: MLB.com
Cincinnati Reds reliever Pirates Select Seth Hernandez with Sixth Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected right-handed pitcher Seth Hernandez out of Corona High School in Corona, California with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The 19-year-old has a big 6-foot-4 frame with the look of potential frontline starter who features a fastball that sits in the mid-90s that is complemented by a plus changeup and a curve.Kyle Stowers Punishes Former Team with Three-Homer Game
Kyle Stowers had a huge day in his team's 11-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. The 27-year-old lefty-swinger went five-for-five with three home runs, an additional run scored, and six RBI. Stowers becomes the second player in MLB history to record a three-homer game against a former team after New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger did it against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night. The Marlins acquired Stowers from Baltimore as part of the return for left-hander Trevor Rodgers in July 2024. That deal looks like a fleecing for Miami, as Stowers has enjoyed a breakout 2025 season. In 346 plate appearances, he's slashing .293/.368/.543 with 19 home runs, 54 RBI, 46 runs scored, and four stolen bases. Stowers will suit up for the National League in the All-Star Game on Tuesday.Source: MLB.com
Miami Marlins outfielder Cardinals Select Liam Doyle with Fifth Overall Pick
Source: Jeff Passan
The St. Louis Cardinals selected left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle out of the University of Tennessee with the fifth pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. The 6-foot-2 southpaw posted a 3.20 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and a phenomenal 42.6 percent strikeout rate (34.3 percent K-BB%) this year with a 10-4 record for the Volunteers. He offers a 75-grade fastball that can touch 100 mph, along with a slider, cutter, and splitter. Expect to see Doyle rise quickly through the St. Louis farm system and potentially make his MLB debut as early as 2026.Daniel Gafford Agrees to Contract Extension with Dallas
Daniel Gafford agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the team. The terms of the deal weren't officially made public. The 26-year-old had a solid 2024 campaign, averaging a career-high 12.3 points with 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. However, he appeared in only 57 games due to injury. He may not be the Mavs' full-time starter at the five spot in 2025, although Dereck Lively II has struggled to stay healthy over the years. Either way, Gafford should still get his minutes. While he isn't a consistent scoring option, his abilities on the glass along with his shot-blocking prowess give him added value for category managers.Source: Mavs PR

Tyler Bremner Selected Second Overall by Angels in 2025 MLB Draft
The Los Angeles Angels have selected right-handed pitcher Tyler Bremner out of UC Santa Barbara with the second overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Bremner has spent all three of his college seasons with Santa Barbara. In 2024, the right-handerNationals Select Eli Willits First Overall
The Washington Nationals have selected shortstop Eli Willits with the first overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft out of Fort Cobb-Broxton High School. The 17-year-old infielder is 6-foot-1 and is a switch-hitter. Willits verbally committed to playing collegiate baseball atLuis Gil Fans Six in First Rehab Outing
Luis Gil (lat) was sharp in his first rehab outing as he works his way back from a lat injury that has prevented him from pitching in the big leagues so far in 2025. Gil got the start for Double-A Somerset and threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, a walk, and an earned run while striking out six. Gil was removed from the game after 50 pitches, so he'll likely need at least a few more rehab appearances before rejoining the Yankees. The 27-year-old flamethrower won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2024, going 15-7 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 171 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings (29 starts). There's a clear spot for him in the Yankees' rotation now that fellow starter Clarke Schmidt has been lost for the year due to Tommy John surgery.Source: milb.com
New York Yankees starter Sal Frelick Exits Sunday with Hamstring Discomfort
Sal Frelick (hamstring) left the game in the third inning of his team's 8-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Frelick felt discomfort in his left hamstring, according to the team, and was replaced by Isaac Collins in right field. The 25-year-old Frelick is in the midst of his best big-league season, slashing .294/.354/.404 with seven home runs, 39 RBI, 46 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. He doesn't make a ton of hard contact (26.9% hard-hit rate entering play on Sunday), but he's difficult to punch out (12.7% strikeout rate). Frelick will have the All-Star break to heal his hamstring, so he may be able to avoid missing games. His speed is a big part of his fantasy value, so nursing a bum hamstring could potentially impact his utility in the second half of the season.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Yordan Alvarez to Be Re-Evaluated Thursday, Could Resume Swinging Soon
Yordan Alvarez (hand) is set for re-evaluation Thursday as team doctors consider clearing him to start swinging a bat. Alvarez was placed on the injured list on May 6 with a right hand fracture. His return timeline remains undefined. The 28-year-old slugger was struggling before the injury in 29 games, slashing .210/.306/.340 with three home runs and a .646 OPS. Alvarez reports no pain in his hand and would be a welcome offensive boost for the banged-up Astros as they aim for a postseason run.Source: Chandler Rome
Astros outfielder Jake Meyers to Miss More Than Three Weeks With Calf Injury
Jake Meyers (calf) will miss more than three weeks because of his calf injury. Meyers was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 11 with a right calf strain after it tightened up before a July 9 game against the Guardians. The 29-year-old was enjoying a breakout season before the injury, slashing .308/.369/.405 with three home runs across 89 games. He is now targeting an August return and will aim to recapture his early-season form for a surging Astros team.Source: Brian McTaggart
Astros general manager Dana Brown reported on the team's pregame radio show that outfielder Shane Bieber Set for Rehab Start Tuesday; Eyes August Return After Setback
Shane Bieber (elbow) is scheduled to make his first rehab start Tuesday in the Arizona Complex League after suffering a setback in his Tommy John recovery last month. The 30-year-old is expected to throw around two innings or 35 pitches as he works toward an August return. Bieber made only two starts in 2024 before tearing the UCL in his right elbow, allowing no runs and striking out 20 batters across 12 innings. He has spent his entire career in Cleveland and could be a key addition to a pitching staff that ranks 18th in MLB with a 3.92 team ERA.Source: Tim Stebbins
