The Los Angeles Angels have selected right-handed pitcher Tyler Bremner out of UC Santa Barbara with the second overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Bremner has spent all three of his college seasons with Santa Barbara. In 2024, the right-hander posted a strong 2.54 ERA with a 0.88 WHIP across 88 2/3 innings that were split between the rotation and the bullpen. However, this past season, Bremner was deployed entirely as a starting pitcher. Across 14 starts (77 1/3 innings), the 21-year-old posted a 3.49 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP. During this stretch, he struck out 11 batters (12.9 K/9) while showing solid control, serving up just 19 free passes. His four-seam fastball can reach the upper 90s. He possesses an elite changeup that holds an excellent 65 grade on MLB.com. He also occasionally mixes in a slider, but it has not been as successful. Given that he is primarily a two-pitch pitcher, he will likely need significant development in the minor leagues. However, the Angels have not been afraid to promote their top prospects quite early. As a result, Bremner could have an opportunity to debut in the upper minor league later this summer.--Andy SmithRead More News
