Sahith Theegala A Risky Option At Texas Children’s Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
Sahith Theegala finished T36 at the Valspar Championship, marking his fourth top-40 finish of the season, and he has now made the cut in eight of nine events. He now turns his focus to the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he's played three times, with finishes of T28, T22, and T61 in previous appearances. This week, players will be tested in all aspects of their game, with particular emphasis on the short game. Although Theegala has lost strokes from tee to green (minus-0.206 per round), he has been much better around the greens, ranking 74th in strokes gained around the green (0.077) and 51st in putting (0.275). He also ranks in the 31st percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards this season, a distance that accounted for 38.1% of all approach shots here last year. Theegala has the firepower to compete at any event, but including him in lineups at his $8,000 price tag on DraftKings comes with some risk.Alex Smalley A Strong Play At Texas Children’s Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
After four straight finishes of T21 or better, Alex Smalley posted a scorecard of 74-74 and missed the cut at the Valspar Championship. He now looks to bounce back at the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he has played in three times, with finishes of T15, T4, and a missed cut in 2024. This week, players will be tested in all areas of their game, with particular emphasis on the short game. Smalley has been especially strong around the greens, ranking fifth on tour with 0.596 strokes gained per round. He is also seventh in total strokes gained (1.541), 10th in strokes gained from tee to green (1.203), and 41st in putting (0.338). With all the tools needed to compete, Smalley is once again a solid play at his $8,200 price tag on DraftKings.Michael Kim Bounces Back At Valspar Championship
Source: PGA Tour
After missing the cut at the PLAYERS Championship, Michael Kim bounced back with a solid T28 finish at the Valspar Championship, marking his sixth top-30 finish in his last seven starts. He now looks ahead to the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he's played in seven times, making the cut four times. This week, players will be tested in all areas of their game, with a particular emphasis on the short game. Kim excels here, ranking 11th in strokes gained around the green (0.454 per round) and 73rd in putting (0.130). He is also fourth in scrambling, 11th in strokes gained from tee to green, and in the 75th percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards this season, a distance that accounted for 38.1% of all approach shots here last year. At $8,700 on DraftKings, Kim is an excellent option for fantasy managers once again this week.Sungjae Im Looking For Bounce-Back Performance At Texas Children’s Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
Sungjae Im posted a scorecard of 76-66-76-76 to finish T61 at the PLAYERS Championship. He now turns his attention to the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he's played in twice before, with finishes of T19 in 2021 and T50 in 2020. This week, players will be tested in all areas of their game, with particular emphasis on the short game, which bodes well for Im. He ranks 20th in strokes gained around the green (0.374 per round) and 25th in putting (0.460). However, his biggest struggle has been on approach, where he loses 0.877 strokes per round -- ranking 171st on tour. He also ranks in just the 15th percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards this season, a distance that accounted for 38.1% of all approach shots here last year. Despite his struggles on approach, Im's elite short game at $9,300 makes him a worthwhile consideration for fantasy managers this week.Austin Eckroat A Player To Avoid At Texas Children's Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
Austin Eckroat finished the PLAYERS Championship at T61, marking the first time this season he has made consecutive cuts. He now aims to build on this at the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he has played in once before, missing the cut in 2022. This week, players will be tested across all aspects of their game, particularly emphasizing the short game. Eckroat ranks 166th in strokes gained around the green (minus-0.414 per round) and 88th in putting (0.026). He makes up strokes off the tee with 0.291 strokes gained per round, ranking 88th on tour. However, he ranks in just the 25th percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards this season, a distance that accounted for 38.1% of all approach shots here last year. Given his recent form and struggles with his short game, it's best to avoid Eckroat this week.Nico Echavarria A Volatile Option At Texas Children's Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
Nico Echavarria concluded the Valspar Championship with a T16 finish, marking his fourth tournament of the season with a T34 or better result. Now, he turns his attention to the Texas Children's Houston Open, an event he competed in once before, recording a missed cut in 2022. This week, players will be tested across all aspects of their game, with particular emphasis on the short game. Echavarria ranks 116th in total strokes gained (minus-0.161 per round) and 167th around the green, but he excels with his putter, ranking fifth on tour with 0.750 strokes gained per round. Additionally, he's in the 84th percentile for proximity from 150-200 yards this season, a distance that accounted for 38.1% of all approach shots here last year. Given his streaky nature and reliance on his flat stick, fantasy managers will need him to maintain his putting efficiency to make his $7,400 price tag on DraftKings worth it.Joe Highsmith Continues Post-Win Success And Is Looking For More In Houston
Source: Data Golf
Florida was kind to Joe Highsmith in the four tournaments played in 2025, racking up a win, two top 25s, and a missed cut. The 24-year-old has received such a jolt of life since switching to the warm seasoned grass in Mexico that has propelled him into 18th in the FedEx Cup points race. He's averaging +0.886 strokes gained putting and +0.508 in strokes gained on approach over his last five starts. That recipe is good enough to hang around most places, but his higher proficiency from beyond 175 yards makes him especially appealing here. At $9,700 on FanDuel, Highsmith has a lot to like heading into Thursday.Adam Hadwin Far From Good Form As He Heads To Texas
Source: Data Golf
It wasn't a good run in Florida for Adam Hadwin, as he missed the cut at both The Players and Valspar Championships and was the center of attention on X last week for busting a sprinkler head in frustration. It's easy to see why, as the Canadian averaged -1.41 strokes gained on approach during the two days. It was the third event in his last four starts losing strokes with the irons, and driving the ball has been even worse, with an average of -0.577 over his last four starts. For someone with a decent course history at Memorial Park, it will be interesting to see if he can change with the tide as the PGA Tour rolls into Houston. However, he isn't worth the risk of playing him in most DFS circumstances.Ben Griffin Looking For Consistency At Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
Before his last two starts, Ben Griffin was having a stellar start to the 2025 season. The last two starts in Florida were not kind to Griffin, with missed cuts at The PLAYERS Championship and the Valspar Championship. This week's venue is Memorial Park Golf Course, where the longer hitters have the advantage, as the course plays 7,500 yards and possibly longer, with unpredictable wind. Griffin has driven the ball very well this year, ranking 21st in total driving. Players will also be tested with long approach shots, with just under 33% coming from distances of 200 yards or more. He has been solid in that department, ranking 86th on tour. If you're looking for a value play in DFS this week, Griffin may be a viable option.Nick Dunlap Looking For Ball-Striking Form Ahead Of Houston Open
Source: Data Golf
It has been a rough stretch over the last couple of events for Nick Dunlap, as he has posted true strokes gained averages of -3.78 and -3.57 in strokes gained off the tee en route to missing back-to-back cuts at The Players and the API. That type of performance won't get things done, even at a place like Memorial Park, that isn't very demanding off the tee. However, he also isn't doing anything too noteworthy anywhere else either. He finished T11 at this event last season, which was aided by gaining over four strokes on the greens, but he hasn't seen production close to that since making the jump to bermudagrass greens this season. At $8,300 on FanDuel, Dunlap is always an easy person to take a chance on each week. But the warning signs are there to seek other options if compelled to. Jake Knapp Looks To Bounce Back At Texas Children's Houston Open
Source: PGA Tour
After missing the cut at last week's Valspar Championship, Jake Knapp is looking for redemption at Memorial Park. Prior to last week, Knapp was as hot as any golfer on tour with four straight top 25 finishes. Memorial Park is a venue that caters to longer hitters, as just under 33% of approach shots come from 200+ yards. Knapp has excelled in approach shots over 200 yards, ranking 19th on tour. His putter has also been hot this year, gaining 0.602 strokes and ranking 11th. He is a prime bounce-back candidate this week and is a solid play in DFS.Max Greyserman Trying To Shake Off Poor Weekend At Houston Open
Source: PGATour.com
Max Greyserman finally had one of those weekends at The Players Championship. The American golfer, born in New Jersey, missed the cut behind a 74 and 78. That came on the heels of three straight Top 25 results. Greyserman has played well this season with a Top 10 at The American Express (T-7). Most of his approach to the green metrics have curved to average (-0.004 strokes gained for example). However, he averages 28.7 putts per round anchored by 27.43 putts in the final round. Getting close to the hole is vital for Greyserman. He ranks 147th in putts beyond 25 feet (3.42%). However, he is best in the 10 to 15-foot range (19th on tour). At +6000, Greyserman could be a reasonable longer shot option for this weekend at the Houston Open. Sam Stevens Could Need Texas-Sized Resolve In Houston
Source: PGATour.com
Sam Stevens needs a positive turn in his golf game. The American golfer has struggled to make the weekend in each of his last four tournaments. He missed twice and was close at the Valspar Championship. Stevens then faltered further with a 75-73 to finish outside the Top 50 (T-64). Too many erratic rounds has wrecked Stevens birdie average (3.72 -126th). Not surprisingly, Stevens has a scoring average of 70.64 which ranks 109th. Add in putts per round which is up to 29.19 and 142nd. Stevens has to do more work to stay under par. At +8000 on DraftKings, Stevens is a long shot to put things together on what could be a tournament plagued by weather issues. Sam Ryder In Good Form As Houston Open Approaches
Source: PGATour.com
Sam Ryder is coming off consecutive top-20 finishes. The American golfer played well enough to contend at The Players Championship and then the Valspar Championship. That is not easy to do, and he finished T14 and T16, respectively. Ryder has been quite consistent, making all eight cuts. Furthermore, he has only had one round worse than a 72 (74 at the Farmers in January). This may not be a recipe to win, but Ryder has a chance to contend and factor into DFS plans. Ryder's putter has been excellent, ranking second in strokes gained at 0.861. While some see regression coming, Ryder approaches the greens well, too, (47th at 0.352 strokes gained). Ryder is plus-320 to finish inside the top 20 for a reason. With slower greens expected due to rain, the American could get a boost in Texas.Patrick Rodgers Looking For Better Opening At Houston
Source: PGATour.com
Patrick Rodgers wants to throw the last two opening rounds in Florida away. The American golfer started off on the wrong foot after a 74 and then a 76 to open The Players Championship. Before that missed cut, Rodgers had four straight Top 25 results. This included a T-3 at The Genesis Invitational. Unfortunately, the problem may be the weather. The key to this tournament early may be when Rodgers tees off. That can be said for a lot of golfers but with average metrics in putting and approach (-0024 and -.0095 strokes gained respectively), Rodgers hopes to get started early.
