Pablo Sandoval's Weight Not An Issue
4 years agoSan Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler said that corner infielder Pablo Sandoval's weight and conditioning isn't an issue, and the Giants expect Kung Fu Panda to be in game shape by Opening Day later this month even though he's noticeably heavier than he was during spring training in Arizona almost five months ago. Sandoval had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last September, and the 33-year-old has long dealt with weight and conditioning issues. The switch-hitter played in 108 games last year, with 36 coming at third base and 15 at first base. He hit .268 with 14 home runs, 23 doubles and 41 RBI in 2019. Sandoval can still drive the baseball and he could see more at-bats with the designated hitter in play in the National League, but he's still more of a depth option for those in NL-only leagues.
