Matt Duffy Ties Game Against MLB Saves Leader Friday
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Matt Duffy came up big in the ninth inning Friday versus the Mariners. He was facing the Major League Baseball leader in saves so far in 2018, Edwin Diaz with a runner on third. He would single to drive in the game-tying run. He had three hits during the game to raise his batting average to .319. In his last healthy season in 2015, he batted .295 with 12 home runs and 12 stolen bases. Duffy's floor is fairly solid as long as he is healthy. Duffy is only 27 years old as the 2018 season started so despite his slow start in the counting (runs, HR, RBI, steals) stats, there is hope for a boost as the season goes on. He should be owned in deeper leagues, especially in AL-only formats.
