Matt Chapman Getting a Breather Against Royals
Matt Chapman will start on the bench on Tuesday as the team continues a series against the visiting Kansas City Royals at Oracle Park. Casey Schmitt is starting at the hot corner and will hit seventh against Royals right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Chapman has really struggled at the plate so far in 2025 with the Gigantes, but he's picked things up a bit in May with a .246 average (16-for-65) with three home runs, three doubles, eight RBI, a steal and 11 runs scored in 17 games played. The 32-year-old five-time Gold Glover does have eight homers, 24 RBI and 25 runs scored, but he's hitting just .216 (37-for-171) through mid-May. Schmitt will be a low-upside DFS sleeper at third on Tuesday with a .200 average (5-for-25) in limited playing time this year. He has never faced Lorenzen in his career.
