St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Carpenter has now started off two of the last three games on the bench. It's been due to lefty starters going for the opposition, but Carpenter played almost every day last season. It would be a significant blow to his fantasy value if he continued to play only against right-handed pitching. Jedd Gyorko is starting at third base on Friday, with Kolten Wong at second and Jose Martinez at first. Carpenter should be back in the lineup for Saturday's game, and he'll try to break out of his extended slump.--David A Marcillo - RotoBaller
