Kyle Gibson Scratched With Back Tightness
6 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson (back) was a late scratch for his scheduled start on Wednesday against the hosting Miami Marlins with back tightness. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore ended up making the emergency spot start for the Cardinals. We'll have more updates on Gibson's status in the coming days, but for now, it's unknown when he'll be able to make his next start, and he could be a candidate to land on the 15-day injured list. The 36-year-old veteran has gone 5-2 in his first season with St. Louis and has posted a decent 3.44 ERA (4.15 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with 73 strikeouts and 31 walks in 83 2/3 innings over his 14 starts. His strikeout rate of 21.3% is the highest since 2019 when he was with the Twins, and so far he's been able to limit the long ball, which has been an issue for him in the past.
