1 year agoCincinnati Reds rookie infielder Elly De La Cruz is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. With De La Cruz getting a breather, Spencer Steer will handle third-base duties and bat leadoff for the Reds. De La Cruz has burst onto the scene in his first MLB season with dazzling athletic abilities, but he's hit a rough patch at the plate of late. The 21-year-old Dominican switch-hitter has just two hits and 15 strikeouts in his last 35 plate appearances over eight games to drop his season line to .274/.324/.433 with four homers, 16 RBI and 17 stolen bases in his first 38 major-league games.
