Cubs Extend Qualifying Offer To Cody Bellinger
1 year agoThe Chicago Cubs formally extended a $20.325 million qualifying offer to outfielder Cody Bellinger, ensuring they'll receive draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team this offseason. Bellinger became a free agent when he declined his end of a $12.5 million mutual option for 2024. The 2019 National League MVP had a big-time bounce-back season with the Cubbies in 2023 after hitting just .193/.256/.355 for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021-22. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger hit .307 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, 20 stolen bases and an .881 OPS in 130 games. Bellinger will have no shortage of suitors after returning to MVP form this year, and he also played well defensively in center field for the Cubs on top of his offensive exploits.
