Boston Red Sox left-handed pitching prospect Connelly Early tossed six innings of one-run ball with five hits and no walks in his tough loss to Double-A Akron. In this contest, Early tallied eight punchouts for the second-straight contest. Since May 11, Early has flashed elite strikeout upside and has been one of the most productive pitchers at the Double-A level. Through this 36-inning stint, Early has struck out 52 hitters and walked only 14 batters. He has posted an impressive 2.00 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP over this stretch as well. During his first 13 2/3 innings of the campaign, he held a slightly higher 2.63 ERA with 22 strikeouts. The southpaw is currently considered the No. 9-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com. Given his impressive start to the season, Early should earn the call to Triple-A in the coming weeks.--Andy SmithRead More News
