Cole Wilcox Headlines Padres Final Selections
5 years agoThe San Diego Padres selected Georgia pitcher Cole Wilcox with the 80th overall pick in the third round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. San Diego went on to add two more pitchers in Troy University's Levi Thomas in the fourth round and West Columbus High School's Jagger Haynes in the fifth round. Four of the Friars' six picks in this draft were pitchers. Wilcox had some of the best pure stuff in the draft and was a potential first-rounder if not for signability concerns. He's athletic, strong and durable but may be a reliever in the long term. Thomas finished his collegiate career with a 2.98 ERA, 185 K's and just 53 walks with a 12-3 record. Haynes, a lefty, was committed to North Carolina after posting a 2.35 ERA with four saves in his junior season.
