Chiefs Expected To Use Franchise Tag On Orlando Brown Jr.
2 years agoKansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is the team's top impending free agent, and the Chiefs are expected to use the franchise tag on him for the second straight season. The move will allow both sides to negotiate a long-term contract extension by the middle of July. If Brown plays 2023 under the tag, he'd make $18.4 million. The 26-year-old was a Pro Bowler in 2022 and has expressed interest in remaining as quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind-side protector for the long term. The expectation is that Brown will want an extension with more guaranteed money than the six-year, $139 million offer he declined last summer. Brown is a key piece of KC's offense. He had an excellent performance in the Super Bowl and didn't allow a sack in three playoff games.
