Chad Green Next Up For Closer Role In Toronto
6 months agoWith Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) unavailable early this week due to an ulnar-nerve issue in his right arm, right-hander Chad Green will serve as the team's closer, according to manager John Schneider. Remember, Jordan Romano (elbow) is on the injured list for the second time this year. Garcia had to be pulled from his save chance on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians after experiencing right-elbow soreness. Nate Pearson finished Sunday's contest, but it will be Green coming in for any save chances while Garcia is out this week. If Garcia isn't recovered by Friday, he could join Romano on the injured list, so the 33-year-old Green should be a priority waiver-wire pickup for fantasy managers in need of saves. Green has been hurt himself this year, but he's also been solid when healthy with a 1.76 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in just 15 1/3 relief innings in 2024.
