Caleb Smith Placed On Injured List
6 years agoThe Miami Marlins placed starting pitcher Caleb Smith (hip) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with left hip inflammation and recalled reliever Tyler Kinley from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. Smith, 27, has been one of the team's best starters this year with a 3.41 ERA, 82 strikeouts and 20 walks over 66 innings in his 12 starts in 2019. The left-hander had given up 11 earned runs over 13 innings while giving up six home runs in his last three starts, though, so hopefully this layoff will serve him well when he returns. Smith ranks eighth among 106 qualified starters this year with a 32.3 percent swing-and-miss rate, according to Statcast. His 31.5 percent strikeout rate ranks fifth among qualified starters, so you need to keep him stashed on your roster.
