Brett Phillips Hits Clutch Two-Run Home Run
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Brett Phillips hit a clutch two-run home run (his first of the season) in the top of the sixth inning on Tuesday to help beat the Oakland Athletics 4-3. It was the hit the Rays couldn't get the previous two days in one-run losses to the Toronto Blue Jays and A's. Phillips' homer was his only hit in four plate appearances on the day, and he also struck out once. While the 26-year-old was the hero on Tuesday, he hasn't done much else this year, hitting just .172/.286/.345 with four runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base in 36 plate appearances. Phillips has been a platoon outfielder in right field and has been hitting ninth in the batting order, leaving him very little fantasy appeal.
