Brandon Scherff Signs Franchise Tender
4 years agoWashington Football Team offensive guard Brandon Scherff officially signed his franchise tender on Friday, according to the league's transaction wire. Scherff received the franchise tag for the second straight year and will receive $18.03 million in 2021, a 20 percent increase over last season. The team and Scherff would've had until July 15 to work out a long-term deal. The 29-year-old became the first Washington player to be named as a first-team All-Pro since punter Matt Turk in 1996. Scherff has made four Pro Bowls, including each of the last two seasons. While he's elite when on the field, he hasn't played all 16 games since 2016 and has missed 18 total games in the last four years due to injuries. Scherff was the fifth overall pick by Washington in 2015.
