Blue Jays Could Go After Zack Wheeler
5 years agoThe Toronto Blue Jays top priority this winter is to improve their starting rotation, and starting pitcher Zack Wheeler could be at the top of their wish list. Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg aren't realistic options. The 29-year-old Wheeler went 11-8 with a 3.96 ERA and 195 strikeouts over 195 1/3 innings. The right-hander is in line for a big payday after a solid second half of the season, but landing in hitter-friendly Rogers Centre and the tough American League East might be the worst landing spot for his fantasy value. Wheeler has been mostly healthy the last two seasons, but he had a long list of injury issues before that. He can miss plenty of bats, though, and his average fastball velocity of 96.7 mph was one of the highest in the game among starters. The Phillies, Padres, White Sox, Twins and Angels are among those known to have interest.
