Horse For The Course: PGA DFS Course History - 2025 Procore Championship

Max Homa - PGA DFS Lineup Picks, Golf Betting Picks

Todd McGill's DraftKings, FanDuel PGA DFS picks for the 2025 Procore Championship at Silverado Resort. Picks for daily fantasy golf based on course history

In the bustling world of professional golf, the rest periods are short-lived, as the PGA Tour returns to action this week for the start of the FedEx Cup Fall. This seven-event schedule will determine how full field events are filled out for the 2026 season for those who didn't make the top 50 at the conclusion of the regular season. That also means, with another tournament on the horizon, we are back with another Horse For The Course piece!

Napa, California, will again be the host site for this week's Procore Championship at Silverado Resort. Since 2014, players have had plenty of time to establish history at the North Course, and with the upcoming Ryder Cup largely on the minds of golf fans, along with 10 players of Team U.S.A. teeing it up in preparation, there are more eyes on this event than in years past.

Horse For The Course is an article highlighting players in this week's field with elite course history and is part of our free PGA DFS content here at RotoBaller. For some of the favorite DFS plays of the week, check out the Core Four article written by my buddy, Joe Nicely, here at RotoBaller every Wednesday. 2025 Procore Championship

Per the request of Captain Keegan Bradley, 10 of the 12 Ryder Cup team members from the American squad are in the field this week in preparation for their showdown at Bethpage in a couple of weeks. Scottie Scheffler and company will look to shake off any rust since their last appearance at the Tour Championship in August.

For others, having a more secure 2026 is the goal. The shrinkage of PGA Tour memberships will be felt at the conclusion of this run, with some who would have squeaked by in previous years having to go back to the even more cut-throat Korn Ferry Tour. For casual golf fans, they likely won't miss any names that make their way out. However, the guys between 80 and 120 on the FedEx Cup points list are likely more worried this time around than ever before.

While it will undoubtedly help the U.S. be more prepared heading into the Cup Matches, it's difficult not to be a little turned off by the fact that 10 other players are getting late starts at securing cards for next season, but that's the nature of the beast. The product is much better with having the bigger names teeing it up.

Silverado Resort (North Course)

Par 72 - 7,138| Greens: Bentgrass/Poa Annua | Designed By: Robert Trent-Jones

Since 2014, the North Course at Silverado Resort has been a decent test for PGA Tour players. The tight, tree-lined nature from tee to green requires precision off the tee, and the ability to make loads of putts on these flatter putting surfaces is a must. The certain flavor that it takes to win here is noticeably different when looking at past champions' success at other places.

Looking at the regular scorecard of the North Course, the routing is vastly different than what they use for the event. The mixture of both front and back nine holes that makes up the tournament layout leans heavily into the need for sound wedge play and putting down the stretch, given the three par-5s and two short par-4s in the closing seven holes.

For my approach-play truthers, it tends to take a backseat here, to some degree. There is always room for someone to take over a golf tournament with iron shots that are impossible to compete with; Scottie Scheffler has dominated the game with that formula. However, with 48.7% of approach shots coming from less than 150 yards last year, finding success without some quality effort in other areas will be hard to manage.

Recent Procore Championship Winners

  • 2024: Patton Kizzire (-20)
  • 2023: Sahith Theegala (-21)
  • 2022: Max Homa (-16)
  • 2021: Max Homa (-19)
  • 2020: Stewart Cink (-21)

The Horse

Max Homa

  • Notable Finishes: 1st ('21 & '22), T7 ('23)

It has been tough sledding over the last year and a half for Max Homa. The 34-year-old, who was beginning to make a name as one of the leading Americans, only managed one top five and one top 15 over 20 starts this regular season. Coming to a place where he's enjoyed so much success comes at the perfect moment to hopefully gain some momentum heading into this crucial run of golf.

Over his 14 measured rounds at Silverado Resort, Homa has established impressive numbers in strokes gained off the tee (+0.926) and putting (+0.729). Both are areas that have somewhat stuck around through his turmoil over this stretch of poor finishes. Look for Homa to have a respectable week to kick off this fall swing.

The Ponies

Sahith Theegala

  • Notable Finishes: 1st ('23), T6 ('22), T7 ('24)

Another name that didn't have the greatest of seasons is Sahith Theegala, after an oblique injury that transitioned into a neck issue caused the former Pepperdine product to shut things down for most of the summer. However, recent interviews suggest that a healthy Theegala is ready to get back to his competitive ways.

The North Course at the Silverado Resort has been a great spot for the 27-year-old, who has turned in some amazing performances on the greens in years past, boasting a +0.943 strokes gained putting average here through 20 rounds. Injuries can be a tricky thing to come back from, but that normally doesn't affect the comfort level on greens. If he is at least back to full strength, a rebound performance this week is certainly not off the table.

Matt Kuchar

  • Notable Finishes: T7 ('23), T12 ('22), T13 ('24)

Getting up there in years, Matt Kuchar still has the knack for popping up at places here and there. Silverado Resort happens to be one of them, as the 47-year-old has been able to finish T21 or better five of the seven times he's made the start. At his age, there is no strength to be had off the tee, but he's been able to make up for it with incredible play elsewhere.

The main component of his success lies with the putter, with a +0.722 strokes gained putting average. However, the iron play has also been a larger contributor than the +0.396 strokes gained on approach average. It's hard to have expectations for a guy merely waiting for his call-up to the senior circuit, but all the signs point to Kuchar having a chance to be in the conversation.

Tom Hoge

  • Notable Finishes: T7 ('24), T12 ('22)

Someone lacking both accuracy and distance off the tee, like Tom Hoge, isn't someone you'd expect to have much success at a place like this, and for much of his career, he hasn't. However, he's managed to plot his way around efficiently over his past two appearances. Averaging +0.890 strokes gained on approach over the last 16 rounds, he's one of the outliers who have gotten the job done this way.

Hoge is known to have some real struggles getting the ball in play, so the perceived range of outcomes is wide here. However, the 36-year-old is one of the more underrated players capable of popping off at any given time.
