RotoBaller PGA Expert Roundtable

Rocket Mortgage Classic

The Expert Roundtable article is an attempt to get you inside the minds of our PGA DFS staff for every tournament.

Our four top golf writers - Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Josh Bennett, and Tommy Bell - will answer the same set of questions each week to give you an idea of how they are viewing the PGA DFS slate. Let's tee it up!

Who is your favorite DFS value play?

  • Joe Nicely: Wesley Bryan - $6,500
  • Spencer Aguiar: Mark Hubbard ($7,200), Lanto Griffin ($6,800) & Maverick McNealy ($7,600)
  • Josh Bennett: Talor Gooch - $7,000
  • Tommy Bell: Tyler Duncan - $7,000

Who is your favorite DFS “high priced” play?

Joe Nicely: Bryson DeChambeau ($11,700) & Viktor Hovland ($10,000)

Spencer Aguiar: I believe a strong case can be made for any of the high-priced options. All carry lofty ownership totals, so I’d prefer Bryson DeChambeau if you can fit him into a lineup without issues. However, you won’t hear me taking too strong of a stance against anyone.

Josh Bennett: Bryson DeChambeau - 11,700

Tommy Bell: Tyrell Hatton - $10,700

Who is your top GPP play?

  • Joe Nicely: Brandt Snedeker ($7,900)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Tony Finau ($9,300)
  • Josh Bennett: Erik Van Rooyen - 8,000
  • Tommy Bell: Kevin Na - $9,100

Who is your top Cash-Game play?

  • Joe Nicely: Rory Sabbatini - $8,800
  • Spencer Aguiar: Adam Hadwin ($8,200) & Rory Sabbatini ($8,800)
  • Josh Bennett: Bryson DeChambeau - 11,700
  • Tommy Bell: Adam Hadwin - $8,200

Which popular golfer will you be “fading”?

  • Joe Nicely: Kevin Na ($9,100)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Doc Redman ($8,500)
  • Josh Bennett: Tyrrell Hatton - 10,700
  • Tommy Bell: Bryson DeChambeau - $11,700

What stands out as the most important stat for this golf course?

  • Joe Nicely: Par-5 Scoring, Birdies or Better Gained, SG: Approach
  • Spencer Aguiar: Par-Five Birdie or Better Percentage, Mixed Putting + ATG.
  • Josh Bennett: overall Ball-Striking
  • Tommy Bell: SG: Tee-To-Green, Par 5 Scoring

Who is your favorite DFS “dart throw”?

  • Joe Nicely: Will Gordon ($7,300), Si Woo Kim ($7,200), Patton Kizzire ($6,900)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Aaron Wise ($6,700)
  • Josh Bennett: Harry Higgs - 6,800
  • Tommy Bell: Wesley Bryan - $6,500

What is your favorite bet of the week? (Any type)

  • Joe Nicely: Outrights - EVR (50/1), Will Gordon (80/1), Matt Wolff (100/1)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Mark Hubbard -120 over Chris Kirk
  • Josh Bennett: Erik Van Rooyen top 10 (6/1)
  • Tommy Bell: Adam Hadwin outright (60/1)

Make a “bold prediction” for this week:

Joe Nicely: Will Gordon scores his second straight top-5

Spencer Aguiar: Seamus Power provides value with a made cut at the bare minimum price tag of $6,000.

Josh Bennett: a golfer that is $6,100 finishes in the Top 10

Tommy Bell: Similar to last week, at least 5 of the top 10 golfers in the tournament are $7,900 or lower on DraftKings

Who is your favorite overall DFS golfer and why?

Joe Nicely: Viktor Hovland ($10,000) - He’s been a ball-striking beast since the restart, played well on this course last season, and should feast on the Par-5s.

Spencer Aguiar: Adam Hadwin ($8,200) - Should carry safety in cash games and more upside than we are used to seeing from him in GPPs

Josh Bennett:  Erik Van Rooyen (8,000) - known to be a great ball striker on the Euro tour, will fit this course well if he can putt decently.

Tommy Bell: Tyler Duncan ($7,000) - He makes so many lineups work with his cheap price tag, and everything we’ve seen the past three weeks says he’s a mainstay on tour. Will the rug be swept out from underneath me this week… Boy I hope not.

What is your optimal DFS lineup building strategy?

Joe Nicely: Due to the weakish field, I find myself going with Stars & Scrubs builds this week.

Spencer Aguiar: Stars & Scrubs

Josh Bennett: Balanced

Tommy Bell: Fairly stars and scrubsy while leaving out Bryson in hopes of catapulting over 20% of the field if something unexpected happens

Who is your pick to win the tournament?

  • Joe Nicely: Viktor Hovland (with Bryson also having a chance to lap the field)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Patrick Reed
  • Josh Bennett: Viktor Hovland
  • Tommy Bell: Tyrell Hatton (Only because I’ve committed to fading Bryson)
