PGA DFS: Expert Roundtable - The Players Championship

The RotoBaller PGA Staff digs into their Expert Roundtable for the Players Championship, an article that provides insight into how the experts are viewing this week's PGA DFS slate.

Please enjoy this PGA Premium article free for a limited time.

Hello RotoBallers and thanks for joining us for the The Players Championship! This is a new article that we're offering each week as part of our PGA Premium subscription, and we hope that you will find it useful.

Be sure also to read all of our other top-notch weekly PGA DFS and betting articles to help you win big!

RotoBaller PGA Expert Roundtable - The Players Championship

The Expert Roundtable is an attempt to get you inside the mind of our PGA staff for every tournament. Our four top golf writers - Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Josh Bennett, and Tommy Bell - will answer the same set of questions each week to give you an idea of how they are viewing the PGA DFS slate. Let's tee it up for the The Players Championship!

Who is your favorite DFS value play?

  • Joe Nicely: Ian Poulter ($7,300) & Daniel Berger ($7,200)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Scottie Scheffler ($7,500) & Abraham Ancer ($7,200)
  • Josh Bennett: Rory Sabbatini (6,800)
  • Tommy Bell: Daniel Berger ($7,200)

Who is your favorite DFS “high priced” play?

  • Joe Nicely: Webb Simpson ($9,200) & Bryson DeChambeau ($9,100)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Dustin Johnson ($10,000), Xander Schauffele ($9,400) & Bryson DeChambeau ($9,100)
  • Josh Bennett: Jon Rahm (11,000)
  • Tommy Bell: Patrick Cantlay ($9,800)

Who is your top GPP play?

  • Joe Nicely: Justin Rose - A risky play that will have no ownership and quietly showed positive signs with his ball striking last week
  • Spencer Aguiar: Dustin Johnson - Potential to receive under 10 percent of the ownership but has the upside to win the event.
  • Josh Bennett: Jason Day- tends to come back nicely after he WDs from events. He has good history here
  • Tommy Bell: Paul Casey - On the cheaper side, but has all the skills needed to succeed at a track like this, and can handle tough fields

Who is your top Cash-Game play?

  • Joe Nicely: Matt Kuchar ($7,800)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Adam Scott ($9,600), Webb Simpson ($9,200) & Hideki Matsuyama ($8,800)
  • Josh Bennett: Matt Kuchar (7,800)
  • Tommy Bell: Matt Kuchar ($7,800)

Which popular golfer will you be “fading”?

  • Joe Nicely: Patrick Cantlay
  • Spencer Aguiar: Patrick Reed ($8,500)
  • Josh Bennett: Rory McIlroy
  • Tommy Bell: Rory McIlroy

What stands out as the most important stat for this golf course?

  • Joe Nicely: SG: Ball Striking & Approach, Scrambling, Bogey Avoidance
  • Spencer Aguiar: SG: OTT & Ball Striking
  • Josh Bennett: SG: OTT, Ball- Striking
  • Tommy Bell: SG: Around the Green, SG: Approach

Who is your favorite DFS “dart throw”?

  • Joe Nicely: Russell Henley ($6,400) & Joel Dahmen ($6,600)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Ryan Palmer ($6,500), Victor Perez ($7,000), Jason Kokrak ($6,800) & Sebastian Munoz ($6,100)
  • Josh Bennett: JT Poston (6,400)
  • Tommy Bell: Jason Kokrak ($6,800)

What is your favorite bet of the week? (Any type)

  • Joe Nicely: Daniel Berger Outright +$6,600 & Ian Poulter Top-10 +$850
  • Spencer Aguiar: Dustin Johnson Wins The Players Championship (+2800)
  • Josh Bennett: Kevin Kisner top 10 (+1100)
  • Tommy Bell: Kevin Kisner Top 10 (+1100)

Make a “bold prediction” for this week:

  • Joe Nicely: Patrick Cantlay misses the cut
  • Spencer Aguiar: Tony Finau posts his first career top-10 at TPC Sawgrass, challenges for the title late.
  • Josh Bennett: The leader of the tournament on Sunday heading to hole 17 hits their tee shots on 17 and 18 in the water
  • Tommy Bell: Four of the top finishers will be priced $8,500 or less on DraftKings

Who is your favorite overall DFS golfer and why?

Joe Nicely: Hideki Matsuyama - Price, course history, and ball striking

Spencer Aguiar: Bryson DeChambeau - He is significantly underpriced for DFS purposes this week, and it shows with his outright price not lining up with his price tag. A little more chalky than I would care to see, but there are so many positives we can point towards.

Josh Bennett: Matt Kuchar - significantly underpriced for his caliber of player

Tommy Bell: Matt Kuchar - I think Kuch brings the safety, upside, and pedigree to this tournament that we’re looking for in a lineup staple. I can’t see a world in which he misses the cut, and I can certainly see a path in which he ‘Webb Simpson’s his way to victory at TPC Sawgrass

What is your optimal DFS lineup building strategy?

Joe Nicely: Balanced build

Spencer Aguiar: Starting lineups outside the big three.

Josh Bennett: avoiding 10k range, build 9k players in with 6k values

Tommy Bell: One golfer from each of the top 3 price ranges (10k+, 9k, 8k) and then upside value plays to fill it out

Who is your pick to win the tournament?

Joe Nicely: Bryson DeChambeau

Spencer Aguiar: Dustin Johnson

Josh Bennett: Jon Rahm

Tommy Bell: Justin Thomas (just because I don’t have the stones to say Patrick Cantlay)
