Outfield Waiver Wire Pickups For Fantasy Baseball - Week 14

Henry Davis - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Kevin Hickey's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for outfielders and Week 14 of the 2023 MLB season. Consider adding and streaming these free agent hitters.

This article will discuss fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for the outfield in Week 14 -- June 26 through July 2. Whether your team is derailed by injuries or you’re simply ready to give up on your draft day darlings, navigating the waiver wire will be crucial to finding long-term success in fantasy baseball.

As we move through the season, trends fluctuate, and we must learn to react on the fly. When it comes to hot streaks, you have to act fast or you may miss out. This set of outfield-eligible players may not all have the longest track records, or their success could be considered unsustainable. However, you have to take risks early in the season in order to uncover your breakout stars. It will already be too late if you wait until these names are established.

Names listed are in order of roster percentage, not confidence ranking. Position eligibility and roster percentage are based on Yahoo, so check your leagues for availability!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Outfield Waiver Wire Adds - Standard Leagues

Adam Duvall, Boston Red Sox - 47% Rostered

Duvall was recently activated from the injured list following a two-month absence. Through 22 games, he's slashing .269/.360/.577 with five home runs and a .324 ISO. His batting average may dip further, but Duvall is an accomplished power hitter. He's struggled to maintain consistent playing time in recent years but launched 38 home runs as a full-time starter in 2021. In a Boston lineup starved for right-handed power, Duvall will continue to see the field as long as he remains healthy.

Looking under the hood of Duvall's performance this season, it appears likely he'll remain a consistent contributor. He sports a .493 xSLG and 15.7% barrel rate, alongside career highs with his 9.5% walk rate and .344 xwOBA. Further, playing at Fenway Park is an advantage for Duvall, who carries a healthy 25.3-degree average launch angle, ideal for eclipsing the Green Monster.

Henry Davis, Pittsburgh Pirates - 45% Rostered

One of the hottest waiver wire adds right now is Henry Davis. The 2021 first-overall draft pick ascended the minor leagues quickly and was called up for his first shot at the big leagues earlier this week. Through his first six games, Davis owns a .250/.375/.500 and .267 ISO. He has an everyday playing role at the moment, though the looming return of Bryan Reynolds may eventually hurt Davis' playing time.

Davis is the third-ranked prospect in the Pirates' system, featuring 60-grade power and a 55-grade hit tool. That translated into a .974 OPS with 11 home runs across 51 games between Double-A and Triple-A this season. His power upside is encouraging though he may have to figure out major-league pitching quickly in order to maintain a consistent role in the short term.

Marcell Ozuna, Atlanta Braves - 39% Rostered

Ozuna's rebound campaign continues to defy expectations. He's slashing .244/.325/.488 with 15 home runs and a 112 OPS+ through 60 games this season. This comes after two consecutive seasons of subpar performance and various off-the-field incidents, leading many to believe Ozuna's best days were behind him. Instead, he's been about as productive as he had been prior to 2021, at least with his power stroke.

Digging deeper into Ozuna's numbers, his power output appears sustainable. He features an outstanding .544 xSLG, 15.1% barrel rate, 91.2 mph average exit velocity, and 45.3% hard-hit rate. Ozuna's .257 xBA sits below his career average, but he compensates for it with a strong 10.6% walk rate and elite .381 xwOBA.

Jose Siri, Tampa Bay Rays - 11% Rostered

Siri is having a breakout season with the long ball. Through 47 games, he's already accrued a career-high 13 home runs. That's more than his 2021 and 2022 campaigns combined. Overall, Siri sports a respectable .234/.289/.532 slash line alongside a .305 ISO and 131 wRC+.

A closer look at Siri's underlying numbers confirms the obvious. He's selling out for the long ball. Siri carries an underwhelming .235 xBA, including a 34.1% strikeout rate and a horrible 42.5% whiff rate. Still, his strong .342 xwOBA suggests an overall effective approach at the dish. When he does manage to make contact, the results are phenomenal. Siri owns a .517 xSLG and 17.2% barrel rate. He's available in most leagues, yet a 30-home run season is not out of reach.

Outfield Waiver Wire Adds - Deeper Leagues

Nick Pratto, Kansas City Royals - 8% Rostered

Pratto has been featured here frequently. The fact remains he's a consistent fantasy contributor that's more available than he rightfully should be. Pratto continues to operate as the Royals' leadoff hitter and carries a respectable .271/.356/.425 slash line with five home runs.

In the minor leagues, Pratto showcased a lot more power than we've seen from him at the major-league level. He smashed 36 home runs across 124 games between Double-A and Triple-A in 2021 and 17 long balls during 82 contests at Triple-A in 2022. So far, Pratto is hitting for a solid average in the majors, and he walks at an above-average 10.3% rate. It may only be a matter of time before he puts it all together and starts going deep with more regularity.

Mike Tauchman, Chicago Cubs - 7% Rostered

At 32 years old, Tauchman isn't exactly a prospect with remarkable upside. Since 2017, he's been up and down between the majors and minors and even played in the KBO last year. Tauchman hasn't been able to find very consistent playing time during his major league career, but he may finally have something substantial. The Cubs are hitting him leadoff. Though he doesn't flash much power, Tauchman is making the most of the opportunity.

Through 31 games this season, Tauchman carries a .284/.402/.389 slash line. That only includes two home runs. He's unlikely to unlock a hidden power stroke, but his approach at the plate is effective.

He's posted a fantastic .295 xBA, .376 xwOBA, and an elite 16.8% walk rate. The sample size is somewhat small, but Tauchman owns a 12.7% walk rate for his career, which legitimizes his current success. His ceiling isn't as high as some others mentioned, but good things happen when you get on base as much as Tauchman does.

Billy McKinney, New York Yankees - 2% Rostered

McKinney is another under-the-radar pickup for deeper fantasy leagues. The 28-year-old has been up and down between the majors and minors since 2018 and has never contributed in any meaningful capacity before this season. The Yankees have been severely depleted by injuries again this season, and calling on McKinney has been an unexpected success.

Through 15 games, McKinney sports a .320/.346/.660 slash line with four home runs. Given his career body of work, it's unlikely McKinney sustains his .629 xSLG, 17.1% barrel rate, and .411 xwOBA, but playing in Yankee Stadium works wonders for left-handed power numbers.

The eventual return of Aaron Judge could hurt McKinney's playing time. For now, he is a worthwhile streaming option, having hit safely in 14 of 15 games.
