Fantasy Football Injury Reports for Quarterbacks - Updates for Kyler Murray, Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, Josh Allen, more

Kyler Murray - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS Lineup Picks

Fantasy football injury updates and injury reports for quarterbacks (Week 7) as of 10/19/2023, including QBs Kyler Murray, Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, Josh Allen, and more.

The quarterback position usually dodges bumps and bruises better than any position in the NFL, but there are double-digit signal-callers in the injury headlines this week. Especially in two-QB and superflex leagues, this is beginning to become a problem. Our fantasy football injury reports for quarterbacks as of Thursday, October 19 will give you the latest news on the statuses of Kyler Murray, Anthony Richardson, Justin Fields, Josh Allen, and more.

Being up-to-date on NFL injury news can give you an edge over your league mates in fantasy football. Now that the regular season has begun, fantasy managers should stay locked into the latest injury headlines.

Kyler Murray Injury Update

The plan is for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) to practice the next two weeks, according to a source. Barring any setbacks in the next two weeks, Murray could be good to make his 2023 debut in two weeks. Week 5 was the nine-month mark after Murray's surgery to fix a torn right ACL. The Cardinals opened his 21-day window to be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list, and Murray was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

If the plan holds up for Arizona, Murray could return on Nov. 5 against the Cleveland Browns. Fantasy managers with room on their rosters and with a less-than-ideal QB situation might want to stash Murray now. Joshua Dobbs will continue to start under center for Arizona until Murray is ready to return. UPDATE: Murray was limited on Wednesday.

Anthony Richardson Injury Update

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is set to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery. The talented rookie suffered the shoulder injury in the Week 5 win over the Tennessee Titans and was quickly placed on Injured Reserve. The 21-year-old was only able to play in four games, and he left three contests early. Still, he racked up 577 passing yards, 136 rushing yards, and seven total touchdowns.

The No. 4 overall pick showed glimpses of his elite rushing ceiling, which will likely make him a highly drafted fantasy quarterback in 2024. Gardner Minshew, barring an injury, is expected to be to Colts' starter for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.

Justin Fields Injury Update

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (thumb) did not practice on Wednesday and is doubtful for Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Head coach Matt Eberflus didn't have any updates on Fields, and it's all about grip strength for him right now with his right hand.

The Bears are preparing to start undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent this weekend, which is bad news for the entire Bears offense, which will be without running back Khalil Herbert (ankle) and possibly rookie Roschon Johnson (concussion) for a second straight week.  Hopefully for fantasy managers that invested in Fields, he will be able to play in Week 8 on the road in Los Angeles against the Chargers.

Josh Allen Injury Update

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (shoulder) was a limited participant in the team's Wednesday walk-through practice. Allen briefly exited the Week 6 win over the New York Giants with a shoulder injury but was able to return in short order. Since the signal-caller dealt with an elbow injury for much of last year, the organization is likely to be cautious with their franchise player.

Hopefully, his shoulder will not be an issue in the game against the New England Patriots in Week 7. If he's active, he remains a must-start fantasy QB. If he surprisingly doesn't play, veteran Kyle Allen would presumably be the starter for Week 7.

Trevor Lawrence Injury Update

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (knee) is officially listed as questionable to play in Week 7 on Thursday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints. Lawrence was wearing a brace on his left knee in practice this week, and he said he was optimistic that he will be able to suit up on a short week after getting hurt in the Week 6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy managers will want to check back for Lawrence's official status before Thursday's game. We'd be surprised if he was inactive, but if he is, backup C.J. Beathard would run Jacksonville's offense. Treat Lawrence as more of a high-end QB2 in fantasy this week if he plays against a strong Saints defense.

Deshaun Watson Injury Update

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday, according to the team. The Browns haven't ruled Watson out for the Week 7 contest against the Indianapolis Colts, but this isn't a good start to the week for the 28-year-old signal-caller. Watson admitted that he's dealing with a right rotator-cuff strain in his shoulder and is unsure if he'll be 100 percent again this year.

He's already missed the team's last two games in Weeks 4 and 6 (bye in Week 5) and is in danger of missing his third straight game this weekend. If Watson isn't clear to play in Week 7, P.J. Walker figures to make a second straight start for Cleveland after surprisingly leading the Browns to a win over the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.

Daniel Jones Injury Update

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) is feeling better this week, has been cleared to throw and was limited in Wednesday's practice session. Jones injured his neck in Week 5 and was held out of the Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. The 26-year-old signal-caller hasn't been cleared for contact yet, but he could clear that hurdle later this week and return to action in Week 7 against the Washington Commanders.

As of now, though, Jones' status for this weekend remains up in the air, and the Giants aren't going to push him to play if they're not comfortable with it. Backup Tyrod Taylor made his first start of the year in Week 6 and almost led the team to a surprising upset of the Bills in Buffalo. He'd make another start if Jones isn't cleared.

Justin Herbert Injury Update

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (finger) got in a full practice on Wednesday. This past Monday, Herbert played through a fractured left finger that he suffered in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The star signal-caller's ability to fully participate in practice on Wednesday ahead of his team's big divisional clash with the Kansas City Chiefs bodes well for his availability for Week 7. Herbert has thrown for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns through five games this season. (Chargers.com)

Derek Carr Injury Update

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (chest, shoulder) is off the injury report heading into Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Carr was limited on Monday with his lingering right shoulder and chest injuries, but after participating fully on Tuesday and Wednesday he has been removed from the report.

He projects as a mid-range QB2 against Jacksonville on Thursday.

Jimmy Garoppolo Injury Update

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (back) did not practice Wednesday after suffering a back injury in the win over the New England Patriots in Week 6. This is not a good sign for his availability against the Chicago Bears in Week 7.

If he doesn't suit up on Sunday, veteran Brian Hoyer will presumably be under center for the Silver and Black. Although the Bears have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, Hoyer should not be high on the fantasy radar except in two-QB and superflex leagues. Expect the Raiders to lean on Josh Jacobs in this matchup, especially since Justin Fields (thumb) is not expected to suit up for the Bears. This will likely be a battle of rushing attacks on both sides.
