David Montgomery - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Injury News

Fantasy football injury updates and injury reports for QBs, RBs, WR, TEs as of 11/7/2023, including Kyler Murray, Ja'Marr Chase, David Montgomery, Kyren Williams, De'Von Achane, T.J. Hockenson, Deebo Samuel, and more.

There is no shortage of star power in this week's injury headlines. Our fantasy football injury reports as of Tuesday, November 7 will give you the latest news on the top banged-up players heading into Week 10 including Kyler Murray, Ja'Marr Chase, David Montgomery, Kyren Williams, De'Von Achane, T.J. Hockenson, Deebo Samuel, and more.

Kyler Murray Injury Update

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Monday that quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will make his 2023 debut in Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons if all goes well in practice this week. Gannon said Murray will take practice repetitions with the starters this week. He remains on Injured Reserve, but if all goes well in practice, the Cardinals will activate him to play this Sunday against Atlanta.

Rookie Clayton Tune predictably struggled against one of the best defenses in the NFL in the Cleveland Browns in Week 9. Murray is returning from a torn right ACL he suffered late last year, and he should be the team's starter the rest of the way in 2023.

Pick him up immediately if he remains on your league's waiver wire and you need help at the QB position due to injuries or if you have studs like Patrick Mahomes or Jalen Hurts on bye in Week 10. Murray's return will be a boost to all of Arizona's offensive playmakers, most notably receiver Marquise Goodwin and tight end Trey McBride.

Ja'Marr Chase Injury Update

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase (back) is being labeled "day-to-day" after suffering a back injury in the Sunday night win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 9. "He's sore right now. Impossible to say the day after the game. We'll take it day to day," head coach Zac Taylor said. "I'm alive. That's the best thing right now," Chase said. The 23-year-old star receiver landed hard on his back on an incomplete deep pass on Sunday night and was given a heating pad on the sidelines before eventually returning to the game.

It doesn't appear to be a serious injury, but it could cause him to miss some practice time this week leading up to a Week 10 contest against the Houston Texans. Chase took a back seat to Tee Higgins on Sunday night, but he remains a must-start WR1 in fantasy lineups as long as he doesn't miss any time.

David Montgomery Injury Update

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (ribs) is due to return in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers with the team coming out of their bye week. Montgomery has not played since injuring his ribs in the Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he said he was dealing with multiple rib injuries. Despite missing some time, he leads the Lions with 94 carries and is second in rushing yards behind rookie Jahmyr Gibbs with 385.

It's unclear exactly how much of the workload the 26-year-old Montgomery will see in Week 10 after a four-week layoff, which will make him a bit hard to trust in fantasy in his first game back, albeit in a great matchup against the Chargers. Before his injury, Monty was the clear 1A back in Detroit over the rookie Gibbs. (DetroitFreePress)

Kyren Williams Injury Update

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said he expects running back Kyren Williams (ankle) to return after he's eligible to come off Injured Reserve in Week 12. The Rams are on bye in Week 10 and Williams must miss one more game in Week 11 before he's eligible to return to the Rams backfield. Williams suffered an ankle sprain in Week 6 and was put on IR, which requires him to miss at least four games.

The 23-year-old was LA's bell-cow back before the injury, so he needs to be stashed in all fantasy leagues. Darrell Henderson Jr. has seen the majority of backfield snaps for the Rams since Williams' injury, but he's been losing valuable touches to Royce Freeman, who out-carried him 12 to 10 in the Week 9 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Henderson and Freeman should once again split touches for the Rams in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks before Williams hopefully returns in Week 12.

De'Von Achane Injury Update

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said it's been "so far, so good" with rookie running back De'Von Achane (knee) and there "hasn't been any reason" to think he will be on Injured Reserve any longer than he has to be. Achane is eligible to return for the team's Week 11 game against the Las Vegas Raiders after missing the last four games with a knee injury.

Miami is on bye in Week 10, but they could be getting the electric 22-year-old back in Week 11 to work alongside Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. The third-round rookie RB deserves to remain stashed in all fantasy formats until then, as he exploded on the scene in his first four games with 38 carries for 460 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, adding nine catches for 67 yards and two more TDs.

Deebo Samuel Injury Update

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) returned to practice on Monday. The 27-year-old injured his shoulder in the Week 6 loss to the Cleveland Browns and did not suit up for the Week 7 loss to the Minnesota Vikings or the Week 8 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

San Francisco was on a bye in Week 9, so he has had plenty of time to progress through his banged-up shoulder. The 49ers travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in Week 10, and Samuel is always on the fantasy radar if he's active. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his practice participation later in the week. If he returns, Jauan Jennings will lose most of his fantasy value.

T.J. Hockenson Injury Update

Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson (ribs) will be limited in practice this week due to a rib injury he suffered in the Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons, but head coach Kevin O'Connell said the team is hopeful that he'll be able to play in Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints. Hockenson's injury is worth watching, but the 26-year-old isn't dealing with a serious injury and should be available as a surefire starting TE1 in fantasy again this week.

Hockenson was Minnesota's leading receiver on Sunday in the first game without quarterback Kirk Cousins (Achilles) under center. It helped that journeyman Joshua Dobbs entered the contest due to an injury to rookie Jaren Hall (concussion). Hockenson finished with seven catches on a season-high-tying 12 targets for 69 yards.

Drake London Injury Update

The Atlanta Falcons are hopeful that wide receiver Drake London (groin) will return to play in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals. London injured his groin in Week 8 and didn't practice at all last week before being ruled out for the Week 9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. We'll keep a close eye on the 22-year-old's practice status this week. As long as he's able to return to the practice field, he should have a shot at playing this upcoming Sunday in a strong matchup against Arizona's defense.

Quarterback Taylor Heinicke will make at least one more start before the team's Week 11 bye, too, which should make London a bit more attractive in fantasy lineups if he returns from his groin ailment. Tight end Jonnu Smith led the Falcons in receiving on Sunday with London out with five catches, 100 yards and a touchdown.

Khalil Herbert Injury Update

The Chicago Bears designated running back Khalil Herbert (ankle), wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (hamstring) and defensive back Josh Blackwell (hamstring) to return from Injured Reserve on Monday. All three players have returned to practice, opening their 21-day window for the team to officially activate them from IR.

The Bears aren't going to do much in practice on a short week before their Thursday night tilt against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10, so it's more likely that the 25-year-old Herbert returns to action in Week 11.

Even when Herbert does return, he could face more competition for touches in Chicago's backfield from D'Onta Foreman. The 27-year-old Foreman has taken advantage of his opportunity as the team's lead back the last four game, averaging 4.52 yards per carry on 60 carries for 271 yards and two touchdowns, adding five catches, 35 yards and another score. UPDATE: Herbert was listed as a full practice participant on Monday.

Matthew Stafford Injury Update

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay sounded optimistic about quarterback Matthew Stafford (thumb) returning after their Week 10 bye, although nothing is definitive yet. McVay responded to a question from the media about backup Brett Rypien with an indication that it's not something the Rams will be forced to weigh because of "the direction they are headed." Stafford returning in Week 11 will depend on his grip strength and functionality.

The 35-year-old veteran is trying to recover from a UCL sprain in his right thumb that he suffered in Week 8. Rypien went just 13-for-28 for 130 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in the Week 9 loss to the Green Bay Packers. All of LA's offensive weapons would receive a boost in fantasy value if Stafford were to return in Week 11 and start against the Seattle Seahawks.

Christian Watson Injury Update

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said that wide receiver Christian Watson (back, chest) avoided a concussion in the Week 9 win over the Los Angeles Rams and also doesn't have any concerns with his back or chest, which were injured during an outstretched catch on Sunday. The Packers are still monitoring Watson closely, but he looks to have avoided a serious injury and should have a chance to play in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 24-year-old second-year wideout caught just one pass in Week 9 for a 37-yard gain. He got a late start to the 2023 campaign due to a hamstring injury and has been a major disappointment in his sophomore season after he found the end zone seven times in 14 games in his rookie season. So far through five games this year, he has just 12 receptions for 213 yards and one score on 26 targets in a low-scoring and inconsistent offense led by quarterback Jordan Love.
