Fantasy Basketball Night In Review: Tuesday, March 2

Welcome to the RotoBaller NBA Recap. In this feature, we will highlight a few key fantasy basketball takeaways from the games played during last night's slate. These viewpoints can be both positive and negative and will hopefully help to provide insight into different roster moves you should consider making based on trends and statistical nuggets from around the Association.

Fantasy basketball has a lot of moving pieces with all the different scoring settings that are possible to play under, so I will always do my best to spotlight where players gain or lose value in certain game types. For the sake of simplicity and consistency, every time I mention Fantasy Points in these articles I will be using DraftKings' scoring system, which goes as follows: 1*PTS, 0.5*3PM, 1.25*RBD, 1.5*AST, 2*STL, 2*BLK, -0.5*TO. On top of that, bonus points are awarded for Double-Doubles (+1.5) and Triple-Doubles (+3), only one per player at a time.

Without further ado, let's get right into the latest slate of games from the 2021 season and try to figure out how to take advantage of what we saw transpire.

Tuesday, March 2

Nikola Jokic (still 25 years old) joins Wilt Chamberlain as the second center to ever log 50 triple-doubles; LeBron James plays his last game before resting Wednesday's match

Just one day after I highlighted a mighty trio of Europeans getting into the top-4 fantasy leaderboard, I'm back it with Nikola Jokic finishing no. 1 in yesterday's slate of games thanks to another monster performance to the tune of 75 FP and a ridiculous 37-10-11 line to go with 2 steals, a 65% shooting from the floor, and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. With that triple-double, Jokic is now at 50 in his career, sits 9th in the all-time trip-dub leaderboard, and he's just the second center ever to reach the 50-mark.

As ridiculous as it sounds, this game marked Jokic's second outing finishing with a 35-10-10 baseline while attempting 23+ FGA and hitting more than 65% of them (he did it back on Feb. 2). The earliest that had happened before? All the way back in 1995 (!!!) when Chris Webber helped Washington defeating Golden State. This, also, is only the 10th time all those benchmarks have been reached in a single match over the history of the game.

• LeBron James couldn't do anything to help the Lake Show yesterday, as the Lakers fell to Phoenix even though LBJ put up a 38-5-6-2-1 stuffed line and finished as the second-best fantasy player. LeBron will miss tonight's match against Sacramento for resting purposes, which is quite the news as he had been stubborn about it so far. We'll see when AD comes back, and how much LeBron rests going forward.
• Ja Morant hasn't had the greatest of seasons to this point, and he's missed time to injury and COVID-related maladies affecting Memphis as a whole. That wasn't how his game looked like on Tuesday, though, as he dropped 35 pops on Washington to go with 5 boards and 10 dimes to log his best game of the year. Here's to hope this is just the start of a nice run after the AS break.

• I have been saying it for a while, and I really think Boston should at least try to give Robert Williams a little bit more run nightly. Williams has been great off the pine, but he's just playing 20 minutes tops yet putting up numbers on a daily basis. Another 13-8-4-0-3 all-across-the-board contribution yesterday from the Beantown Biggie.
• Speaking of reserves, New York was without Elfryd Payton yesterday and that put Frank Ntilikina--and not Immanuel Quickley--in the starting lineup. No problem for the rook, though. 29 minutes off the bench, 26 points (6 triples), 4 rebounds, 4 dimes, and a steal to spare on a 21 (!!!) FGA night in which he led the second unit with a stupid 39% usage rate.

• With Kawhi Leonard out for the Clips, Reggie Jackson started at the SG position, played 37 minutes, and thrived at it. He finished with a sweet 25-3-7 line, hit 5 treys, shot 71% from the floor, and only committed 3 TOs in that time to become one of the most valuable players of the day. Jackson, by the way, is available in 95% of Yahoo leagues...
• Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown keep sucking. Is it time to try and swing a deal for the second half of the fantasy season? Could very well be the case. They played 40 and 34 minutes respectively on Tuesday but none of them could top 30 FP, finishing with good-not-great (for their value/price) 14-5-5-2 and 18-5-2-1 lines against the Clippers.
