Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Mookie Betts, Grayson Rodriguez, Ketel Marte, Riley Greene, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Max Muncy, and more

Mookie Betts - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 8/12/2024, including Mookie Betts, Grayson Rodriguez, Ketel Marte, Riley Greene, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Max Muncy, and more.

The 2024 fantasy baseball playoffs will be here before we know it, and unfortunately, injuries remain a factor in lineup decisions. There is no shortage of high-impact fantasy baseball studs dealing with bumps and bruises, so let's take a look at the top injured players, including Mookie Betts, Grayson Rodriguez, Ketel Marte, Riley Greene, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Max Muncy, and more.

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of August 12, 2024. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, all players should be monitored ahead of the start of the week.

Mookie Betts Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Mookie Betts (hand) is set to take live BP prior to Sunday's game and will travel with the team to Milwaukee when he is expected to return to the diamond on Monday evening. The superstar has been sidelined since mid-June due to a fracture in his left wrist.

Before the injury, Betts was boasting a strong .304/.405/.488 line with 10 home runs, nine stolen bases, and 40 RBI through 72 games. Dodger skipper Dave Roberts told the media earlier this week that Betts will primarily be playing in right field when he returns compared to earlier this season, where he played at shortstop and second base. As a result, this will allow Gavin Lux to continue to see most starts at the keystone, while Miguel Rojas and Nick Ahmed should be expected to split time at shortstop.

Grayson Rodriguez Injury Update

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Grayson Rodriguez (lat) only has a mild lat strain, according to GM Mike Elias, and the Orioles are hopeful he will be back in September. Baltimore will keep him shut down for 10 more days and will have him get more imaging in three weeks. This is positive news for Baltimore as they aim to position themselves in the AL playoff picture, giving them a reliable arm for a deep October run. Rodriguez pitched to a 3.86 ERA before hitting the 15-day IL.

The Orioles' rotation has been a bit sketchy outside of AL Cy Young candidate Corbin Burnes, so a speedy return from Rodriguez into the rotation would be music to the Orioles' ears. Fantasy managers looking for an arm to replace Rodriguez in their lineups should look to Albert Suarez, who has posted a 3.75 ERA in 15 starts for the Orioles this season.

Ketel Marte Injury Update

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (ankle) took Sunday off and could return to the starting nine as early as Monday, according to Jesse Friedman. Marte left Saturday's game early after colliding with a base runner when attempting to make a tag.

He was seen holding his ankle in pain but was able to walk off the field under his own power. Clearly, this injury is not significant, as the star infielder hopes to be back in the lineup as early as Monday. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the 30-year-old's status prior to setting their weekly lineups. Marte has enjoyed a fantastic 2024 campaign, boasting a stellar .299/.370/.563 slash line with 30 home runs and 81 RBI.

Riley Greene Injury Update

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene (hamstring), who has been sidelined with a right hamstring strain, is set to run the bases on Sunday in San Francisco. This marks the last step before he can start a minor-league rehab stint with Triple-A Toledo. It appears the 23-year-old is on track to be the designated hitter for the Mud Hens on Tuesday.

Greene, who has been out of the Tigers' lineup since July 25, was having quite a productive season. In 101 games (371 at-bats), he has a slash line of .264/.357/.485 and hit 17 home runs with 15 RBI. (Detroit Free Press)

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (triceps) is set to throw another bullpen session on Tuesday and then is expected to travel to St. Louis to rejoin the Dodgers to face live hitters. The right-hander has thrown several successful bullpen sessions so far.

Yamamoto was transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 13 due to right triceps tightness after originally hitting the 15-day IL in mid-June. In his final three starts before hitting the IL, he held a stellar 0.60 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with an overall 2.92 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through 74 frames. Yamamoto is worth keeping in your IL spot, given the elite upside he could provide during the stretch run.

Max Muncy, Tommy Edman Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers president Andrew Friedman said that he expects both third baseman Max Muncy (oblique) and infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman (wrist) to be reinstated from the injured list for the team's next homestand, which begins a week from Monday.

Muncy and Edman were set to start their minor-league rehab assignments over the weekend with Triple-A Oklahoma City, so barring a setback, they should both be with the Dodgers' big-league roster soon. Muncy has been out since May 17 with a right oblique strain, while Edman has yet to play in 2024 after having offseason wrist surgery. The Dodgers acquired him from the Cardinals at the July 30 trade deadline. LA could ease both of them into their starting lineup when they are ready, but by the end of the regular season, both Muncy and Edman should be regular lineup pieces for the Blue.

Wenceel Perez Injury Update

Detroit Tigers outfielder Wenceel Pérez (oblique) might be sidelined for the rest of his rookie season after sustaining a left oblique strain during Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Although the Tigers haven't officially ruled him out, manager A.J. Hinch was non-committal about Pérez returning before the season finale on Sept. 29.

Pérez, a switch-hitter, was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to the oblique strain, but he is expected to be out for much longer. In 97 games (347 at-bats) this season, he is slashing .242/.298/.386 with nine homers and 32 RBI. In his place, the Tigers have called up outfielder Akil Baddoo from Triple-A Toledo.
