Dynasty Risers and Fallers: Ertz, Williams, Love

RosterWatch provides dynasty football league news and updates all offseason, including a weekly look at value risers and fallers. This time, we look at TE Zach Ertz, RB Jamaal Williams, and QB Jordan Love

This column was written by Alan Seslowsky (@alanseslowksy) and provided to RotoBaller by our friends at RosterWatch.

Each week, this column provides you with movement in the RosterWatch Dynasty Rankings. We highlight players who have gained or lost value recently.

Tracking these player value trends assists dynasty players in identifying opportunities to improve their rosters, as the landscape of the market is ever-changing.

Editor's Note: The FFPC Playoff Challenge is back with a massive $500,000 grand prize and $1.35 million total prize pool, paying down to 800th place. Here's the deal: no salary cap, no draft, no pickups, no subs. Choose 10 players, and as NFL teams get knocked out so will your players, so choose your team wisely. The 7,250 entries will sell out quickly, and registrations will close on Saturday January 10th at 4:30 pm ET . Don't wait - get your team now and end your fantasy football season with a shot at $500,000! Sign Up Now!

Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles

Age: 31
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: TE30
Updated Rank: TE23

The dynasty market is largely ignoring Zach Ertz. His startup ADP in tight end premium leagues is TE30. Ertz was a fantasy difference-maker not too long ago. He was among the elite players who could win you weeks. Ertz had a terrible 2020, along with most of the Eagles' fantasy players. The best dynasty players try to “skate where the puck is heading” rather than where it is right now.

RosterWatch likes the idea of drafting Ertz ahead of his ADP in the likely case he is traded or released this summer. There are a variety of good landing spots for Ertz, including Indianapolis, Arizona, and Buffalo. All three teams do not have an entrenched starter at the position and have QBs that would complement Zach Ertz well. In dynasty startup drafts with premium scoring or that require you to start two tight ends, it is plausible to pivot to Ertz while your league mates draft unproven youth.

Jamaal Williams, Detroit Lions

Age: 26
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: RB50
Updated Rank: RB40

During Jamaal Williams’ time in Green Bay, he was considered a top-tier handcuff to Aaron Jones by fantasy players. Williams is a player you kept on the bottom of your dynasty roster and could start in a pinch. Green Bay let Williams’ contract expire and Detroit promptly signed him to bolster their RB depth. As the offseason has moved along, the coach speak has sharp dynasty players paying attention but RosterWatch does not advocate taking coach speak as gospel.

Interestingly, Jamaal Williams is the only free agent that Detroit signed to receive a two-year contract. Jamaal Williams is going to have a role. He should still be treated as a high-value handcuff to D’Andre Swift and is worthy of a roster spot. Fantasy players who buy into the narrative that Williams will have more rush attempts than Swift are likely chasing fool’s gold.

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers

Age: 23
Movement: Rising
Previous Rank: QB35
Updated Rank: QB30

As Aaron Rodgers digs in and seemingly prepares for a long standoff with the Packers, Jordan Love is soaking up practice reps. It’s time to start moving Love slightly up the dynasty rankings with the realization he is going to make starts sooner rather than later. Experienced dynasty players know that even bottom-tier QBs are worthy of starting in Superflex formats. Jordan Love is a player that Green Bay proactively traded up in the first round to get. They are invested in either his success or recouping value for him in a trade.

Either way, he is trending toward having more value over the next 18 months. RosterWatch would prefer to roster Love over players like Jimmy Garoppolo, Ben Roethlisberger, and Cam Newton, all of whom are projected to start Week 1. Love and these veteran players should be considered QB3s in Superflex. If you are forced to draft one of those players as your QB2, you may need to consider the veterans over Love.
