Cole Hamels Should Translate Well to American League

Cole Hamels put an exclamation point on his time in Philadelphia by throwing a no-hitter in his final start before being traded to the Texas Rangers at the end of July. While no similar theatrics followed the 32-year-old to Arlington, he was largely able to hold on to his consistency, notching an ERA just 0.02 points higher than the 3.64 he posted as a member of the Phillies in 128.2 innings. Overall, Hamels was able to improve upon some of his statistics, as his groundball rate (47.7%) reached its highest mark since his 2011 season, while the strikeout rate (24.4%) had not been higher since 2012. There is always some concern that a letdown will occur when a pitcher faces his first full season against the DH, but Hamels' performance after the trade gives us an indication that his numbers can remain steady regardless of where he calls home, making him a relatively safe selection at his current composite ADP near the sixth round.
