ANALYSIS: The New York Giants bolstered their running back room by selecting Cam Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Arizona State. During his final season at Arizona State, Skattebo flashed immense upside, totaling a Big 12-leading 1,711 yards. He also led the conference in plays from scrimmage and finished fifth in Heisman voting.
However, his professional career has gotten off to a rough start.
Throughout most of training camp, Skattebo was dealing with a lingering hamstring injury. This injury held him out of action during the team's first two preseason games, which paved the way for Tyrone Tracy Jr. to claim the starting job in the backfield. While Skattebo was able to appear in their final preseason game, Tracy was a healthy scratch, further suggesting that he had claimed the starting job.
As a result, Skattebo is tough to trust in their Week 1 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Facing a potent Washington offense, Skattebo is unlikely to be heavily involved in their game plan.
While he may continue to gain a more fantasy-friendly role in the backfield as the season progresses, for the time being, he is best to leave your bench in all standard leagues and is only worth a look in deep 14+ team leagues as a desperate flex option.
