Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders

Josh Jacobs is one of the clear losers from free agency. Las Vegas signed Kenyan Drake to a two-year, $11 million contract with $8.5M guaranteed. This means he will be on the roster not just for 2021, but for 2022 as well. RosterWatch was bullish on Jacobs the last offseason. We had reason to believe that Jacobs was going to take a step forward in the passing game. Though Jacobs did improve his catch total from 20 to 33 last season, he fell short of projection and did not pay off where you drafted him in your startup drafts.
Drake projects to be the third-down back and can safely be slotted in for 120 carries too. The Drake signing does not kill Josh Jacobs as a fantasy player; however, it does cap his ceiling as an RB2 who will be more touchdown-dependent for weekly value. Jacobs is no longer a strong top-15 play at running back. He is better valued as a low-end RB2 who you should not target unless he falls to an unquestioned value in the fifth round.
Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals
Age: 24

Joe Mixon’s fantasy value has been a roller coaster ride. In 2019, he was a rock-solid first-round dynasty startup pick. Even though he did not return first-round value, he was a top-15 pick last offseason. Still only 24 years old, Mixon has youth on his side and a clear window to be a top-five RB that his advocates have been touting since he was drafted.
The case for Mixon is that he has had to run behind one of the worst offensive lines in football the last few seasons. Prior to his season-ending injury in Week 6 of the 2020 season, Mixon was the RB9. Though Mixon missed the final 10 games of 2020, he never ended up needing surgery as his foot healed with rest. With Giovani Bernard being released, it could free up more passing targets for Mixon.
Devin Singletary, Buffalo Bills
Age: 23
Movement: Falling

Devin Singletary did not capitalize on his opportunity to be the lead RB in Buffalo last season. In the two playoff games where Zack Moss was out, he totaled only 13 carries, as Buffalo is now a pass-first offense. Moss should open 2021 as the primary runner, relegating Singletary to more of a change-of-pace role. The Bills added capable runner Matt Breida to the RB room, who could take a few touches per game for himself.
Add in that Josh Allen is the team’s de facto goal-line back, and the upside to rank Singletary in the top-36 is not there. We moved him to the tier of RB4s which are one injury away from relevance, but even then the upside may be limited. His updated rank of RB37 may be generous.
