ANALYSIS: Jon Berti came into the 2020 season as a cheap fantasy source of stolen bases and he's lived up to that reputation so far with eight steals (tied for second in the MLB). Berti did start the season as the Marlins no.2 hitting, making eight straight starts there following his season debut batting ninth. After some struggles and a .214 batting average, Berti was dropped down to eighth in the batting order before a resurgence at the plate has seen his average climb to .275 and a promotion to leadoff hitter. The one stable part of Berti's season has been his ability to steal bases and that was on full display earlier this week when he stole second, third and home in the same inning.

Berti has homered once this year too but only has six RBI. His value comes from his speed which ranks in the 97th percentile in the Major League according to statcast. Speed only players can often lead to fantasy disappointment but Berti's batting average and ability to take a walk (10.0% BB% and .362 OBP) along with the Marlins solid if not spectacular offense giving Berti 15 runs scored does offer more than just stolen base value. Of course, being eligible in four different positions makes Berti an even greater asset and with more than half their season still to be played, Berti could easily wind up the stolen base leader by the end of the year and should be rostered in 12+ team leagues.
