Jedd Gyorko (1B/2B/3B, STL) - Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

Blake Sullivan profiles infielder Jedd Gyorko as a waiver wire pickup and add in Week 8 of the 2018 MLB season for his strong start to the season, and expanded role due to injuries.

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 24% of leagues

ANALYSIS: St. Louis Cardinals infielder Jedd Gyorko is in a position to get more playing time. He has been playing in place of Matt Carpenter recently, and he has done well. After shortstop Paul DeJong suffered a broken hand injury after taking a pitch to the hand, manager Mike Matheny said that Gyorko would get the majority of the starts at the position. Knowing he'll potentially play every day adds to his fantasy value.

In 69 at bats, Gyorko has a .290 average with four homers and a slash line of .390/.493/.883. His OPS is nearly 150 points higher than his career total. He has now moved all the way up into the fifth, and sometimes even the cleanup spot in the lineup. This will increase his RBI and BB totals. If Gyorko can keep up his production, he should be the starting third baseman for good once Paul DeJong takes his spot at shortstop back. Nobody else on the Cardinals' roster has been able to prove themselves as a worthy cleanup hitter, so Gyorko could be in for a big role the rest of the season.
