According to Ian Rapoport, current Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is currently at the top of Green Bay’s wish list for defensive coordinator. Fangio is still under contract with the Bears, but his status is uncertain following the firing of John Fox and recent hiring of Matt Nagy as head coach in Chicago. If Fangio were to be hired by the Packers, he would replace Dom Capers, a friend of his, who had presided over years of ineffective defenses in Green Bay. The firing of Capers may have left a bad taste in Fangio’s mouth, complicating any attempts by Green Bay to acquire him. Fangio runs a very similar scheme to Capers, so if he was hired, no dramatic changes would be expected. Still, Fangio has been much more successful running that scheme and has adapted to a changing NFL more capably than Capers. His potential hiring would be viewed as a big improvement in Green Bay. The Packers are also considering former Browns head coach Mike Pettine, as well as several in-house candidates in their defensive coordinator search.--Tyger McGuigganRead More News
