Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Terrance Ferguson, Los Angeles Rams
Despite running the most routes of all Los Angeles Rams tight ends in Week 1, second-year player Terrance Ferguson was targeted only once and held without a catch in the team's season-opening loss to the 49ers. While the results weren't encouraging after an offseason of hype, fantasy managers should stay patient and avoid dropping him unless necessary.
Week 1 brings extra challenges in parsing what will be predictive from a season-long perspective, and that is especially true in a game where the Rams arrived in Australia roughly 28 hours ahead of kickoff. With four trustworthy tight ends on the roster, Ferguson's usage may see issues of predictability, but he earned a healthy route share to begin the year, and the Rams are still in need of a third pass-catcher behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, who saw more than 55% of the team's targets in Week 1.
At RotoBaller's TE28, Ferguson is a difficult play against the Giants on Monday night, but he should still be held wherever it makes sense to keep a second tight end. However, he is worth stashing, as top wideout Nacua is listed as questionable, which could push Ferguson to the de facto "No.2" on the depth chart.
Ben Sinnott, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders tight end Ben Sinnott is expected to see a larger role in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys with Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) ruled out. Sinnott played only 26.9% of the snaps and didn't see a target on 10 routes in Week 1's loss to the Eagles. Sinnott still played behind blocking tight end John Bates, but Sinnott profiles better to take on Okonkwo's receiving role.
The 2024 second-round pick hasn't had much opportunity to produce in games so far, with only two career games above a 60% snap rate and 16 career receptions. Sinnott projects as a dart throw in a projected high-scoring Week 2 matchup against the Cowboys, ranking as RotoBaller's TE37 in PPR leagues.
Gunnar Helm, Tennessee Titans
Tennessee Titans tight end Gunnar Helm will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles defense in Week 2 of the NFL season. The sophomore tight end was one of the few semi-encouraging pieces of the passing game in Week 1, catching four of five targets for 28 yards, and playing 76% of Tennessee's offensive snaps. This followed a promising rookie season in which the Texas product set the franchise record for receptions by a rookie tight end.
However, Philadelphia limited Washington tight ends Chig Okonkwo and John Bates to a combined four catches for 29 yards last week, and allowed the second-fewest points to opposing tight ends last season. Helm has shown promise in his young NFL career, but this is not a matchup fantasy managers want to chase. He's better left on benches in Week 2.
Oronde Gadsden II, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Oronde Gadsden should see more work in Week 2 after barely being part of the offense in the opener. Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel told Kris Rhim that Gadsden "isn't doing anything wrong" and added, "I'd expect to see more of him." Gadsden played 10 offensive snaps against Arizona but still caught both of his targets for 32 yards, including a 26-yard gain.
David Njoku and Charlie Kolar each played 30 offensive snaps, so there is still plenty standing between Gadsden and a full-time role. The encouraging part is that McDaniel doesn't sound like the small Week 1 workload was punishment for poor play. Gadsden caught 49 passes for 664 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, and Los Angeles clearly still has use for that receiving ability.
He remains more of a deeper-league option for now, but Thursday's comments make the Week 2 snap count worth watching closely.
Greg Dulcich, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Greg Dulcich played the vast majority of snaps at the position in Week 1, logging 77% of snaps against the Raiders. He only had two targets from QB Malik Willis, though, catching both of those passes for 18 yards. His third-round rookie backup, Will Kacmarek, didn't haul in his only target, so even though Dulcich didn't put up great numbers, he appears to have a firm grasp on the starting job in Miami.
However, the Dolphins' run-first offense isn't likely to create enough volume to make him a good fantasy option unless he gets into the end zone. He is only the No. 28 TE in RotoBaller's Week 2 rankings, so even though he's starting for Miami, he probably should be left on the waiver wire in standard leagues.
