ANALYSIS: The Chicago Bears added another weapon for young quarterback Caleb Williams by selecting wide receiver Luther Burden III out of Missouri in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Burden enjoyed a career year in 2023 as he eclipsed the century mark, totaling 1,212 yards with nine touchdowns. In 2024, Burden took a slight step back, tallying just 676 yards, but did catch 61 passes and crossed the end zone eight times.
Burdne had a bit of a slow start to training camp as the young wideout was dealing with a hamstring injury. He was able to return to team practices in late July and made his professional debut in their preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. In this contest, Burden caught two of his three targets for 29 yards.
While he showed potential in this game, Burden was deployed primarily with the backups and not with the starting quarterback, Williams.
Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but it appears Burden will have to earn a prominent role on the offense. As a result, fantasy managers should continue to stash Burden on their bench as he should earn a more significant role as the season progresses.
For Week 1, Burden is best to leave on your bench as Rome Odunze and DJ Moore will operate as the team's clear top pass catchers facing the Minnesota Vikings.
