The San Diego Padres have optioned left-hander JP Sears to Triple-A El Paso and called up right-hander Alek Jacob. Sears was acquired from the Athletics on July 31 alongside flamethrowing closer Mason Miller. Since then, he has bounced back and forth between Triple-A and the majors, last being recalled on August 20. The 29-year-old has made 25 major league starts this season, posting a 5.01 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a .265 opponents average. After a difficult season, Sears will look to bounce back and turn his performance around at the Triple-A level.--Julian Brooke
