Bennett Sousa to be Shut Down for At Least Two Weeks
Bennett Sousa (elbow) landed on the 15-day injured list on Friday (retroactive to Aug. 20) with left-elbow inflammation. The 30-year-old will miss more time than that, though, as the Astros announced he's dealing with a low-grade flexor/pronator strain and will go at least two weeks without throwing. The Astros plan to re-evaluate Sousa in early September. One of the Astros' most effective relievers this season, Sousa has gone 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, 59:15 K:BB, seven holds, and four saves in 50 2/3 innings. With Sousa and closer Josh Hader (shoulder) on the shelf, Houston's bullpen has taken a couple of significant late-season hits as the team pushes for an AL West title.
