Reed Garrett to Open for Mets on Saturday
Reed Garrett will serve as the opener in their game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Right-hander Frankie Montas is expected to work as the Mets' bulk reliever, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Garrett hasn't lasted more than two innings in any of his 48 appearances this year, but he has pitched to a sterling 2.51 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and 54:22 K:BB over 46 2/3 frames. Montas, on the other hand, has fared poorly across seven appearances (all starts). The 32-year-old has a 6.68 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP, 29 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 33 2/3 innings. After allowing five or more earned runs in back-to-back starts, the Mets will try him out of the bullpen Saturday.
