Washington Nationals left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin (hamstring) threw another simulated game on Tuesday afternoon at Nationals Park and could be ready to come off the 15-day injured list if he doesn't experience any setbacks with his recovery. Chafin strained his right hamstring while stretching for a throw at first base back on June 8 but has been running well and looks to be on the cusp of rejoining the big-leauge bullpen. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw sounds like he'll be ready to rejoin the Nats for their weekend series against the visiting Boston Red Sox that starts on Friday, July 4. Before his injury, Chafin had posted a 3.18 ERA and 2.03 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 11 walks in 11 1/3 relief innings in his first season in Washington. Chafin has plenty of MLB experience in 12 years but only has 20 career saves and will mostly work in a middle-relief role when he returns.--Keith Hernandez
