Outfielder Jason Heyward (oblique) was released by the Padres on Tuesday. He was designated for assignment on Saturday and had officially cleared waivers at the time of his release. The veteran has been working his way back from an oblique strain, with his last major league game coming on May 23. In 34 games this season, he slashed just .176/.223/.271 with two home runs. The 35-year-old hasn’t been productive at the plate since 2023 when he posted a .269 batting average on .340 on-base percentage, but another team may be willing to take a chance on him with a minor-league deal.--Jeremy Heist
