Adam Mazur Called Up to Start This Week
Adam Mazur from Triple-A Jacksonville in order to make a potential spot start during the team's current homestand, according to Sports Grid's Craig Mish. Mazur, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is most likely to make the start on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, although nothing is official. The 24-year-old former second-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2022 out of Iowa has gone 3-4 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and 16 walks in 59 2/3 innings over his 12 outings (11 starts) for Jacksonville this year. If Mazur handles himself well in his big-league debut for the Fish, he could be in line for more starts before the All-Star break. Mazur had a rough big-league debut with SD last year, but he has some of the best command and control among pitching prospects.
