The Green Bay Packers are 2-1 despite not having franchise quarterback Jordan Love on the field for the past two games due to a knee injury. But while the Packers should be in a good mood heading into their NFC North tilt against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings this Sunday, not all of the Packers are off to superb fantasy starts.

Green Bay has one of the youngest and deepest receiving corps in the NFL. One of those young, talented pass catchers is Dontayvion Wicks, who had 39 receptions for 581 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign last year. While many fantasy managers thought Wicks was ready to take his game and fantasy value to a higher level this season, it has not been the case.

The second-year man is in the midst of a sophomore slump. Wicks only has three catches for 26 yards and a TD in three games, and in two of those games he failed to have a single reception. So should fantasy footballers give up on Wicks and give him his walking papers? Here is my take:

Should I Drop Dontayvion Wicks?

Yes, you should – for now. Wicks has been lost in the shuffle because Green Bay has such a plethora of pass catchers. He is the clear WR4 behind Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Jayden Reed, plus the Packers have two solid tight ends in Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft. Factor in RB Josh Jacobs’ 20 touches per game and there are not many crumbs left over for Wicks.

While Wicks and all of the Packers receivers and tight ends have had their fantasy values dented because Malik Willis has been the QB instead of Love the past two games, the fact is that other receivers on the roster get more opportunities and have been better converting targets into catches than he has.

This does not mean that you should totally erase Wicks from your memory banks. One Watson hamstring pull would elevate Wicks’ role in the passing attack immediately and make him worthy to pick back up. We all know how injury-prone Watson has been the past two seasons.  Wicks has separation speed most receivers do not have. He just needs more time on the field and more plays called for him.

And it is not like Wicks has been totally ignored by his signal callers. Wicks is currently third on the team with nine targets. The problem is the targets get spread around in Green Bay, which hurts everyone’s fantasy value.

Wicks would be better off on another team where he could be a big-play threat as a WR3 and get more targets and time. His numbers will go up in the coming weeks with Love back at the helm of the offense, but there are several better options on your league’s waiver wire right now. Drop Wicks for an upgrade now. Just keep the door open for him later in the season if his situation changes.
