Will CeeDee Lamb Sign A New Contract?
The Cowboys' front office is reportedly talking with Lamb's representatives. Leaked information suggests that the Cowboys made an offer with an average annual value (AAV) of just under $33 million a year.
That contract would make Lamb the second-highest-paid receiver behind Justin Jefferson. News reports lack information about the structure of the proposed contract. Details, such as duration, guaranteed money, and how the money is timed over the years, are also important for evaluating a contract.
Will CeeDee Lamb Play In Week 1?
The question is, will Lamb sign a new contract before Week 1? Or, if he is unable to reach an agreement with the Cowboys, will he give in and play out his final year without a new contract?
There is speculation from agents and analysts that Lamb wants to be paid more than Justin Jefferson, who set a new record earlier this year as the highest-paid non-quarterback when he signed a $35 million-dollar-a-year deal. But Jefferson (107.4) gained more yards per game than Lamb (102.9) last season and is considered by many to be a more talented receiver.
CeeDee Lamb 2024 Fantasy Outlook
If Lamb plays, he is expected to be one of the top few wide receivers in fantasy football. He has an extremely productive quarterback, Dak Prescott, throwing him the football, and the Cowboys' offensive line is above average. The Cowboys returned a couple of veterans on the line, including second-team All-Pro Tyler Smith, and reloaded with early-round talent in the draft.
Since head coach Mike McCarthy took over as playcaller last season, the Cowboys' offense has been elite. Last season, the Cowboys ranked No. 1 in scoring offense and No. 5 in yardage.
Lamb is the focal point of the offense. He received 181 targets last season, his career-high. For two straight seasons, Lamb has been on the field for over 990 offensive snaps.
If you are picking early in the first round, Lamb is a solid pick in both redraft and dynasty leagues. In redraft, Lamb is going as the WR1 and the second overall pick on average. Other receivers who could be in contention for the title of WR1 this season include Tyreek Hill, Ja'Marr Chase, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Justin Jefferson.
Hill outproduced Lamb in terms of yardage and touchdowns last season. Chase is coming off a down year, as both he and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow missed some time with injuries. St. Brown has improved in each of his seasons. Jefferson has to work with a considerably worse quarterback situation than the other highly drafted receivers.
