Two-Start Pitcher Streamers: Fantasy Baseball SP Pickups and Starts (September 4 - September 10)

Bryan Woo - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Welcome back to our Two-Start Pitcher Streamers article - Waiver Wire Streamers and Starts for Week 24, from September 4 to September 10. With plenty of teams that have six and seven games on their schedule this week, we're looking at a variety of two-start pitchers.

For those new to this recurring column, each week this fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups column will identify starting pitchers expected to make two starts in the upcoming week. It can be considered as fantasy baseball streamers ahead of the Sunday night waiver wire run for leagues with weekly transactions.

There are 25 pitchers currently scheduled to make two starts during this period. We will be looking at pitchers who are less than 50% owned in Yahoo leagues. Listed will be those who are rostered over 50%, those who are best available under 50%, and risky options under 50%. There are a few other two-start pitchers available, but they should be avoided.

Two-Start Pitchers - Over 50% Rostered

Best Available Two-Start Pitcher Streamers

Kyle Hendricks (36% Rostered), Chicago Cubs

Scheduled Starts: vs. SF, vs. ARZ

Kyle Hendricks has gotten back into a groove lately, with a 2.48 ERA, 3.05 FIP, and 0.31 HR/9 in his last five starts. The veteran pitcher will face off against two slumping offenses, with San Francisco and Arizona ranking 23rd and 28th in scoring since the All-Star break, respectively.

I've religiously advised against Kyle Hendricks in two-start situations this season, but there is no reason to avert Hendricks this week.

Bryan Woo (36% Rostered), Seattle Mariners

Scheduled Starts: @ CIN, @ TB

While there have been bumps along the ride, it's been an incredible year for rookie Bryan Woo. Through 13 starts this season, he maintains a 3.96 SIERA, 25.3% strikeout rate, and 105 Pitching+ grade.

His first start is on the road against a subdued Reds offense that ranks 19th in scoring since August 1. His second start against a Rays offense that ranks seventh in scoring in August warrants concern. However, the rookie's sinewy performance this year makes him one of the better streaming options this week.

Risky Two-Start Streamer Picks

Reid Detmers (30% Rostered), Los Angeles Angels

Scheduled Starts: vs. BAL, vs. CLE

Reid Detmers holds a 7.94 ERA, 7.76 FIP, and 96 Pitching+ grade in his last five starts. It's been a nightmarish stretch of baseball for the talented 24-year-old, and it won't get any easier this week.

His first start is against a Baltimore offense that ranks eighth in scoring since the All-Star break. He'll get a breather with a second start against a Cleveland offense that ranks 24th in runs scored since the All-Star break. But after his start against Baltimore, the damage will likely be past repair.

Brandon Pfaadt (11% Rostered), Milwaukee Brewers

Scheduled Starts: vs COL, @ CHC

Disregarding his latest start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Brandon Pfaadt has pitched admirably since his recall in late July. From July 22 to August 25, Pfaadt held a 3.48 ERA, 23.5% strikeout rate, and 1.04 WHIP through seven starts. That is, of course, disregarding his latest start against the Dodgers, a terrible outing where he allowed six runs and eight hits across four innings.

It's easy to excuse him for a bad showing against a superpowered offense, but he'll get another heavyweight bout with his second start against a Cubs offense that ranks second in runs scored since the All-Star break.

Rich Hill (7% Rostered), San Diego Padres

Scheduled Starts: vs. PHI, @ HOU

With an 8.50 ERA, 7.48 FIP, and 15.7% strikeout rate through five appearances with the Padres, Rich Hill may have finally succumbed to Father Time. It's unlikely he will turn back the clock this week with starts against two top-five offenses (by runs scored since the All-Star break).

Jesse Scholtens (3% Rostered), Chicago White Sox

Scheduled Starts: @ KC, @ DET

Jesse Scholtens has oddly played up to his competition since entering the Chicago White Sox's starting rotation in August. Through four starts against opponents with a winning percentage above .480 in August, Scholtens holds a 2.66 ERA. But in two starts against opponents below a .370 winning percentage, he holds a 10.38 ERA.

Facing off against two of the league's worst offenses usually benefits a pitcher, but that doesn't seem to be the case with Jesse Scholtens. With a terrible 15.9% strikeout rate, the 29-year-old rookie lacks the strikeout cushion to make up for any mishap.
