Adam Wainwright, 3.5 Strikeouts (LOWER)
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright is in the midst of his last major league season, and I wish I could say he was exiting gracefully. Wainwright's age 41 season is shaping up to be the worst of his career. The veteran pitcher has reached four or more strikeouts only three times in 16 starts this season. Wainwright faces the Pirates, who have the fourth-highest strikeout rate against righties this month, but I fear Wainwright does not possess the stuff to rack up enough strikeouts against them.
Bryan Reynolds, 1.5 Total Bases (LOWER)
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds is facing off against Adam Wainwright on Tuesday. In Reynolds' 33 at-bats against Wainwright, Reynolds went 7-for-33 (.212) with six singles, a double, and eight strikeouts. Although Wainwright may not be the pitcher he once was, 33 at-bats is a large sample size. Some pitchers have a batter's number, which might be the case in this matchup.
Austin Hays, 0.5 Singles (LOWER)
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Austin Hays faces Toronto Blue Jays starter Yusei Kikuchi on Tuesday. In his career against Kikuchi, Hays is 3-for-19 (.158) with a home run and five strikeouts. Kikuchi has had the upper hand in most of their matchups, and 2023 has arguably been Kikuchi's best season. Hays may struggle to reach base against the Blue Jays starter.
Underdog MLB Pick'em (LOWER)
Ketel Marte, 0.5 Singles (HIGHER)
Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte faces Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray on Tuesday. Marte has 31 career at-bats against Gray, and in those at-bats, Marte went 13-for-31 (.419) with two home runs, two doubles, nine singles, and five RBI. Marte is in a great position to collect multiple hits in Tuesday's contest, and I believe at least one of those hits will be a single.
Adley Rutschman, 0.5 Singles (HIGHER)
On Tuesday, Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman squares off against Blue Jays southpaw Yusei Kikuchi. Kikuchi has been decent this season, but Rutschman has demonstrated success against him. Rutschman has had 14 at-bats against Kikuchi and went 5-for-14 (.357) with two home runs, four RBI, and four walks. The young Orioles catcher should continue his success against the Blue Jays starter on Tuesday.
Also, if a Ryan Mountcastle line pops up on Underdog closer to the first pitch, take the over since Mountcastle is batting .583 with four career home runs against Kikuchi.
Andrew McCutchen, 0.5 Singles (HIGHER)
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen faces his familiar division rival Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals. McCutchen has, far and away, the most at-bats against Wainwright of any hitter in the Pirates lineup. The two veterans have faced off in 80 at-bats over the years. In those at-bats, McCutchen has gone 25-for-80 (.313) with three home runs, seven doubles, a triple, and 13 RBI. I expect McCutchen to rack up at least a single against his longtime foe.
