Points League Hitters: Waiver Wire Pickups for Fantasy Baseball - Week 13

LaMonte Wade Jr. fantasy baseball rankings draft sleepers waiver wire pickups

Nicklaus Gaut's fantasy baseball H2H points league waiver wire hitters to pick up for Week 13 of the 2023 MLB season, identifying free agents hitters to add.

Welcome to Week 13 and our fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for hitters. These fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups are for the week of June 19 - June 25, looking at players below ~50% rostered for ESPN, Yahoo!, or Fantrax.

We'll be doing this roundup of points leagues every week here at RotoBaller, with waiver wire targets being evaluated in terms of the different scoring systems of ESPN, Yahoo!, CBS, and Fantrax.

Player values can vary wildly from platform to platform, so we'll make sure to highlight where players are the best and worst fits. We know points league players get neglected and we're here to help. Position eligibility is taken from Fantrax and players are grouped by their most valuable fantasy position, using a hierarchy of C > 2B > OF > 3B > 1B > SS. Stats and rankings for charts are calculated using games through Saturday, June 17.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Know Your Scoring System

Platform AB Hits TB 1B 2B 3B HR R RBI BB SO SB CS HBP
ESPN 0 0 1 1 2 3 4 1 1 1 -1 1 0 0
Yahoo! 0 0 2.6 2.6 5.2 7.8 10.4 1.9 1.9 2.6 0 4.2 0 2.6
CBS 0 0 1 1 2 3 4 1 1 1 -0.5 2 -1 1
Fantrax 0 0 1 1 2 3 4 1 1 1 0 2 0 0
NFBC -1 4 0 0 0 0 6 2 2 0 0 5 0 0

You'll likely find a suitable mirror to your own system if you look above. While every point counts, as long as they aren't seismic changes, you can get away with some "close enough" calls. IE. You're probably fine if everything is the same except for HBP (or something similar).

**Okay, we have one more wacky week, as I only just got back from vacation. But we still have some choice picks for the waiver wire, along with the handful of notes I was able to complete before severe turbulence cut my airplane laptop usage super short. We'll be back on track like normal next week with all of the waiver wire notes and charts that you're used to.

First Base Waiver Wire Pickups

Best Choices

LaMonte Wade Jr., SF, 1B/OF (Yahoo!: 45%, ESPN: 27%) - Oh, c'mon -- really? Wade was rostered at 45% on Yahoo! last week so surely he'd be past our threshold after posting a 25 APR in Week 12 headed into Sunday, right? Nope! He actually went down to 37%. Wade is up to a 61 APR for the season, slashing .279/.416/.465 with a .389 wOBA and 148 wRC+.

Next Choices

Carlos Santana, PIT, 1B (Yahoo!: 6%, ESPN: 15%) - Santana might not be a points god anymore but surely he's still at least a minor deity, currently running a 96 APR for the year and a 35 APR in Week 12. Expect him to keep it up in a week where the Pirates are scheduled to face three LHP.
Elehuris Montero, COL, 1B/3B (Yahoo!: 1%, ESPN: 0%)
Brendan Donovan, STL, 1B/2B/3B/SS/OF (Yahoo!: 37%, ESPN: 26%)
Luke Raley, TB, 1B/OF (Yahoo!: 38%, ESPN: 11%)
Seth Brown, OAK, 1B/OF (Yahoo!: 18%, ESPN: 5%)
Spencer Torkelson, DET, 1B (Yahoo!: 18%, ESPN: 10%) - Repeat after me; prospect development is not always linear. Torkelson has three HR in seven games and has now batted second for eight straight.

Catcher Waiver Wire Pickups

Best Choices

Patrick Bailey, SF, C (Yahoo!: 7%, ESPN: 2%) - Joey Bart went right from the IL to Triple-A and Patrick Bailey should go right to your roster if you are struggling at catcher. Bailey had started five games in a row prior to getting a day off on Sunday, posting a 42 APR for the week. He's slashing .304/.337/.532 over 85 PA in 2023, with three HR, 10 R, and 19 RBI.

Danny Jansen, TOR, C (Yahoo!: 16%, ESPN: 14%) - Jansen has mashed since returning from the IL, going 4-for 17 with three HR. And his playing time might go up in the short term after Alejandro Kirk was pulled on Sunday after suffering a laceration on his hand from an HBP.

Next Choices

Gary Sanchez, SD, C (Yahoo!: 37%, ESPN: 15%) - Just as water will always find its level, Gary Sanchez will always find the Mendoza line. Sanchez is down to a .203 AVG but San Diego is scheduled to face four LHP in Week 13, so Gary might be in for a good run.

Gabriel Moreno, ARI, C (Yahoo!: 21%, ESPN: 7%)

Desperate Choices

Shea Langeliers, OAK, C (Yahoo!: 19%, ESPN: 6%)
